The London Stock Exchange’s identity has always been linked to its history and its reputation as a financial hub. The brand’s original visual identity was built around a symbolic coat of arms and a text block, which together conveyed the image of Europe’s oldest stock exchange.
The coat of arms, positioned on the left, is executed in a classical style and reflects traditional British heraldry. At the center of the composition is a shield with a cross, supported on either side by figures of lions or winged griffins standing on their hind legs. Above the shield rises a helmet, crowned with another lion. Decorative ornaments surround the helmet. At the bottom, the coat of arms is finished with a ribbon bearing the Latin inscription “DICTUM MEUM PACTUM.” It is set in serif capital letters. All elements are black, with precise white outlines.
To the right of the coat of arms is the text portion of the emblem. The top line features the word “London,” in a serif italic font similar to Times New Roman Italic or Sabon Italic.
Below is the larger text “STOCK EXCHANGE,” in uppercase, bold, sans-serif letters. The typeface visually resembles Helvetica Bold or Arial Black. Like the coat of arms, the text is black.

2007 – 2022
The London Stock Exchange’s brand identity was refreshed in 2007, signaling the exchange’s desire to meet current standards and emphasize its status in the financial world. The changes affected the text and color palette, while the coat of arms remained unchanged.
The coat of arms retained its main details. The classic black color was replaced with dark blue, featuring white details that highlight the coat of arms’ elements and make them more attractive.
The word “London” now features a new font, bold and serifed, stylistically similar to Helvetica or Arial. The top line is dark gray. Below it is the inscription “Stock Exchange,” rendered in a thinner, light-gray font that contrasts with the top line and appears visually lighter.
The design reinforces the brand’s perception as a modern financial center that balances heritage with current business trends.
2022 – today
The London Stock Exchange logo was updated to launch a new typeface and visual style developed by the international studio Interbrand and typographer Jesse Regan. Together, they introduced the LSEG Motto typeface, which combines British typography with the brand’s signature letterforms for L, S, E, and G. The inspiration came from historical forms used in coat-of-arms lettering, reflecting a classic British style of writing.
In the new composition, the exchange’s coat of arms retained its elements while receiving improved detailing. The contours of the lion positioned above the helmet became smoother and clearer, lending the symbol expressiveness and elegance.
The text portion of the logo is arranged in three left-aligned lines. The top line contains the word “LONDON,” the second line “STOCK,” and the third “EXCHANGE.” All are set in uppercase letters using the new LSEG Motto typeface. Its style is similar to classic typefaces such as Trajan or Times. At the very bottom is a smaller inscription, “An LSEG Business,” clarifying its affiliation with the LSEG group.
The overall color of the entire composition is “Refinitiv Blue,” emphasizing the brand’s modernity and energy.
