The user’s attention glides over the Meizu logo like a computer chip. The emblem speaks of the precise operation of gadgets, the perfect fit of parts, and the quality software of the brand’s products.

Meizu: Brand overview

The history of Meizu began in 2002 on the iMP3 forum, where Huang Zhang introduced a будущий бренд. In 2003, after leaving Aiqin, he moved to Zhuhai and founded Meizu Technology.

In 2004, Meizu released its first MP3 players. Unlike many local manufacturers, the company focused on original design and strict quality control. By 2006, its devices were exported to Europe, the US, Japan, and South Korea. Chipmaker Sigmatel recognized Meizu for a крупный order of its 3520 chips.

At the peak of MP3 success, Huang Zhang shifted to smartphones, anticipating disruption from Apple. In 2007, Meizu introduced the M8, a touchscreen device based on Windows CE, priced below the iPhone.

In 2009, the Android-based M9 followed. In 2011, Meizu launched Flyme OS. Around that time, Lei Jun explored investment talks, but after negotiations failed, he founded Xiaomi in 2010.

In 2014, Huang Zhang returned as CEO and launched the Meilan sub-brand. In 2015, Alibaba Group invested $590 million, and smartphone sales exceeded 20 million units.

In 2016, the rapid expansion of product lines caused confusion and a decline in sales. By 2018, Meilan was closed, and shipments fell sharply as Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo dominated the market.

In 2022, Geely Holding acquired 79 percent of Meizu. In 2023, it became Xingji Meizu Group, and in 2024, the company stopped developing new smartphones for the domestic market, shifting to AI and automotive software, including Flyme Auto.

The debut emblem was developed in 2003. It adorned early models of MP3 players. On the graphic sign, the letters were of uneven thickness, narrowing from left to right. This version was found on smartphones made before PRO 5.

Also, there was an alternative version with hieroglyphs. It was developed by Jack Wong himself for the Chinese MX1 and M9. But since the manufacturer was planning to export the phones abroad, he abandoned the inscription in his native language.

2015 – today

Graphic artists have relied on curved and flowing lines. Many corners are rounded. The individual font is unified: “M” resembles an inverted “E.” Bold, light-blue letters look harmonious on a white background. This color combination is often found in the IT industry, as it is associated with the latest technology, reliability, and security.
