In 2009, Dheeraj Pandey, Mohit Aron, and Ajeet Singh founded Nutanix, headquartered in San Jose, California. The venture aimed to reshape data center technology by creating hyper-converged infrastructure and pioneering software-controlled storage solutions.
Two years after its founding, in 2011, Nutanix launched its first offering, the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform. Notably, it was among the industry’s earliest hyper-converged solutions. Meaning and History
The company designed its emblem at its inception, and it has changed little over the years. The company rebranded only once, when Nutanix introduced a hardware-software complex with a new operating principle. The emblem’s main visual catch, a bright accent, became more precise and structured in the second logo. This colorful element conveys the company’s forward-looking approach and emphasizes its rapid development.

2009 – 2014
The company name is written in thin, flexible, and wide blue letters. The name inherently contains the word “Nut.” This choice reflects the system’s strength, unity, and cohesive operation, as the computers work together like a shared shell. For operations, servers are grouped into unique clusters, linked as a single entity. The operating system establishes a unified NDFS storage matrix. Shared resource use creates an extremely powerful computing platform.
The partially square shape of the letters hints at:
- Clusters into which servers are grouped.
- Storage cells for information.
- The shape of the computers helped create the platform.
Flexible glyphs resemble wires connecting to the servers. Light blue is an archetype for cloud computing and virtual technologies.
The letter X is highlighted in lime to draw attention. The symbol resembles a multiplication sign, indicating that Nutanix provides cloud computing services. It signifies multiplication. Connecting servers leads to high performance. Users can later add new nodes to increase the system’s capabilities.

2014 – today
The 2014 logo resembles the previous one. Yet, the blue shade has darkened, and the letter X consists of two differently colored elements.
The dark blue indicates the team’s growing experience and professionalism. Although hyperconvergence was founded in 2009, true hyperconvergence did not emerge until 2014, after years of development. This was followed by the addition of new, more technically potent clusters. NX-3000, 6000, and 7000 series were introduced. The logo’s color captures this evolution and technical refinement.
The color also speaks to the company’s expansion and maturity. By 2014, Nutanix had raised $310 million and opened offices on all continents. The shade points to major clients; 81 companies from the Forbes 100 list use the platform. Even U.S. government agencies utilize Nutanix products for data storage.
The dual-color design of the letter X points to:
- Symbols of “greater than” and “less than,” evoking calculations.
- Data exchange, showing information flows into and out of the virtual environment.

In 2022, it was revealed that financial reports had been falsified since 2014, leading to investigations and the firing of 4% of employees in 2023.
Font and Colors
Blue is the logo’s primary color. It represents computer technology and conveys technical excellence and the logical structure of cloud systems.
The name’s font resembles Tactic Round Exd Bld. The inscription includes a unique letter X, with one solid glyph and another broken into two parts. This technique indicates that disparate computers are unified in a virtual environment. At the same time, information is fragmented and stored on each server’s physical media.
