Meaning and History
What is NYX?
NYX is the flagship brand of NYX Professional Makeup. Its history started in 1999 when Toni Ko borrowed from her parents a quarter of million dollars and was involved in the business of a young man who was making eye and lip pencils. At first, the cosmetics were only offered to professional salons, but later they became available in the mass-market category.
The logo of this company, like the name, is inspired by the image of the ancient Greek goddess of the night, Nyx. Her name is shown in a contrasting background. Moreover, the emblem has not changed since the beginning of the cosmetic series. Only minor changes were made, which did not affect the main style.
What does the NYX logo mean?
The NYX logo refers only to the name of the brand. The letters, made up of straight lines and semicircles, represent the company’s original approach to beauty.
The logo features the word “NYX” written in capital letters. In the first version, it was single. The modern version is supplemented with a miniature heart as a sign of love for customers and to prove that all products are made with love. The new element is located under the leg of the stylized letter “Y”. Below is an indication of the level of products offered – “Professional Makeup”, made in a muted gray color so that the main emphasis falls on the brand name.
Font and Colors of the Emblem
What symbol does NYX have?
NYX’s main brand mascot is Greek mythology’s goddess of the night. It is a mysterious, romantic image, a symbol of darkness. According to legends, it was with her that the division of day and night began. It was also considered very strong and beautiful.
What is the font of the NYX logo?
The logo’s font is very similar to Linotype Franosch Medium (2002), with a slightly different arrangement of lines. Looking at all the letters individually, the “N” is closest to Compur and Ecliptic BRK, and the “YX” looks like ParaCaps and Planetary Orbiter.
The typeface used for the logo is compound, so there is no definitive answer regarding the typeface. Each symbol is unique in its own way. For example, Ecliptic’s -BRK- and Compur are closest to “N”. The letters “YX” are almost exactly like Planetary Orbiter and ParaCaps. The color scheme of the logo is monochrome, corresponding to a dark night and light stars. It is a combination of black and white.
