Established in 2022, Quilt transforms home climate systems with its energy-efficient, ductless heat pump. Designed by former Google employees and experts from Apple, Nest, and Tesla, this system aims to reduce household fossil fuel consumption, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. To mark its official launch, Quilt has introduced a new visual identity created by San Francisco-based design firm Manual.
Quilt’s new logo embodies its mission: “Better Climate by Design.” The custom wordmark combines precision and humanism, featuring subtle contrasts and a calligraphic quality. This update improves upon the previous logo, which used a chiseled sans serif typeface and an icon that symbolized sewn patterns or different rooms in a home. Without the icon, the new logo presents a more cohesive look and balanced width, height, and spacing among the letters. The “Q” has a distinct curve and opening, adding elegance and contemporary style.
Quilt’s visual identity includes the Quilt Serif typeface, based on the STK Bureau. With its refined numerals, this typeface gives an editorial feel and is used consistently across Quilt’s user interface and mobile app, ensuring a unified brand experience.
To explain Quilt’s room-by-room heating and cooling system, Kelsey Robinson’s isometric illustrations and animations combine detail and abstraction in a polished way. These visuals make the technology both playful and informative.
Manual collaborated with creative technologist Kiel Danger Mutschelknaus, using Processing to develop a generative type tool that mimics airflow. This tool creates dynamic waveforms and 2D animations, reflecting Quilt’s intelligent sensing technology for precise climate control in each room.
The new visual identity also features a refined color palette, enhancing Quilt’s sophisticated and modern appeal. The colors are soothing yet contemporary, aligning with Quilt’s high-end market positioning.
Quilt’s system includes a digital dial, an indoor, and an outdoor unit designed to blend seamlessly into any home environment. These components combine functionality with style. The mobile app completes the ecosystem, offering room-by-room control, advanced sensors to prevent energy waste, and personal energy data reports.
Brand photography highlights comfort and luxury, appealing to upscale consumers who value aesthetics and performance. The imagery conveys a lifestyle of ease and sophistication.
Quilt’s rebranding marks a milestone in its journey to lead in sustainable home climate solutions. By focusing on design, technology, and user experience, Quilt aims to exceed modern homeowners’ expectations.
In summary, Quilt’s new visual identity captures its innovative spirit and commitment to sustainability. The refined logo, cohesive typeface, engaging illustrations, and animations create a strong, unified brand presence. As Quilt expands, this refreshed identity will communicate its values and vision to a broader audience.
