Round Rock Express began in 2000 when Ryan Sanders Baseball, led by Nolan Ryan, sons Reid and Reese, and businessman Don Sanders, bought the Jackson Generals and moved the Double-A club to Round Rock, Texas. Austin had been considered, but the suburb offered stadium approval and better terms. The Express name referred to Nolan Ryan’s “Ryan Express” nickname.
Dell Diamond opened on April 16, 2000. Affiliated with the Houston Astros, the team won 90 games and the Texas League championship under manager Jackie Moore. Attendance passed 600,000, setting a Double-A record. At the same time, Baseball America named Round Rock its 2000 minor league baseball Team of the Year. The award covered all professional levels. The affiliation lasted through 2010.
The club broke the Texas League attendance record during each of its five Double-A seasons. In 2005, Round Rock moved to Triple-A as Corpus Christi Hooks took its former place in the Houston system. Reid Ryan helped create the Hooks as the new Double-A affiliate. Dell Diamond drew a club-record 700,277 spectators that season. The Express led the Pacific Coast League with 613,226 fans in 2016, ahead of rivals such as the Sacramento River Cats.
Round Rock joined the Texas Rangers system from 2011 to 2018, returned to Houston in 2019, and renewed its Rangers affiliation in 2021 under a ten-year agreement running through 2030. Roy Oswalt, Hunter Pence, Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Joey Gallo, and Josh Jung were among the players developed in Round Rock.

2005 – 2010
The original Round Rock Express logo reflected the team’s origins and railroad theme, named after the famous “Express” train associated with baseball legend Nolan Ryan, the team’s founder.
The word “Express” was set in bold serif letters, typical of traditional baseball clubs. Letters were red, symbolizing energy and sporting spirit, outlined in dark blue for depth.
The railroad tracks, depicted in gray and dark blue, surrounding the word “Express”, visually emphasized the railroad theme.
The arched “Round Rock” text above provided unity and completeness to the emblem.
2011 – 2018
After the Round Rock Express advanced to Triple-A, a redesigned logo by Studio Simon from Louisville highlighted the team’s affiliation with the Texas Rangers and new ambitions.
The primary image featured a locomotive silhouette, central to team identity. “Express” appeared on the front of the train, resembling a grille.
Above, “Round Rock” was placed on a red arched band. Below was a baseball with distinctive stitching, flanked by a star and stylized elements of the Texas flag, reinforcing the team’s connection to the state.
The font for “Express,” modified by Studio Simon, was a bold, athletic style with characteristic cuts and outlines. The main colors were blue, red, and gray.
2019 – today
The Round Rock Express logo after the 2019 redesign took on a completely new form, becoming more compact and substantial. Studio Simon developed the project in Louisville.
The overall composition centers on the letter E, which conveys a sporting spirit and a thematic connection to the railroad, as reflected in the name “Express”. The letter is massive, with a dimensional construction. The upper part of the character is formed with a thick line. Instead of the usual horizontal bar crossing the letter in the middle, a five-pointed star with a dimensional silver treatment is placed there. Its presence symbolizes the club’s affiliation with the state of Texas. The lower part of the symbol is styled after the front of a locomotive, where grille panels and vertical slits typical of railway transport are visible. The entire surface of the inner symbol is detailed and decorated with numerous rivets and metal elements. Shades of gray and silver with highlights and shadows are used to create additional depth and volume. The sign itself is surrounded by a thin burgundy line that separates it from the overall background.
The logo’s main background is a dark blue circle. Along its edges run two ring lines: a thin white inner line and a burgundy outer line. Inside the ring, along the circle, is the inscription “ROUND ROCK EXPRESS,” divided into two parts. The words “ROUND ROCK” are placed in the upper half, while “EXPRESS” is positioned in the lower half. Between them are two symmetrically placed five-pointed stars in a silver-white shade, balancing the composition. The inscription’s typeface is sans serif, similar in style to popular sports fonts such as Agency FB and Square 721.
The logo palette includes dark blue, white, and burgundy, along with additional shades of gray and silver that give the symbol a metallic, technical effect.
