mail-order Logos and Brands
Catalog sales and mail order, which originated in the 19th century, gave the section its name, “Mail Order.” Sears, Roebuck and Co., with its legendary catalog; JCPenney; Otto Group; and La Redoute built business empires on the model of distance selling, in which the buyer chose a product from a paper catalog and received it by courier or mail. Amazon, which started as an online version of the same principle, became the digital heir to catalog sales. The logos of the companies in this section represent brands that have long since made selling without a physical store the fundamental format.
