supergroup Logos and Brands
Supergroups formed from members of already well-known bands define the content of the “Supergroup” section. Cream (Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker), Traveling Wilburys (Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne), Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog brought together musicians with established solo careers for short-term collaborative projects. Supergroup logos were created as symbols of a new alliance, and the emblems conveyed a sense of occasion, a meeting of legends, and experimentation. The brands in this section represent a phenomenon in which participants’ reputations secure public attention before the release of the first album, and the project logo marks a collaboration that exists outside the hierarchies of the main lineups.
