Aris Mining traces its roots to 2010, when Serafino Iacono and Miguel de la Campa founded Gran Colombia Gold around the Segovia operations in Antioquia. In June 2011, the company merged with Medoro Resources, adding the historic Marmato deposit. By 2012, it had become Colombia’s largest underground gold producer, though falling prices and heavy debt created years of financial pressure.
From 2013 to 2018, management focused on improving ore grades, processing, and costs at Segovia. The mine developed into one of the world’s highest-grade operating gold assets, averaging 14.5 grams per tonne in 2020, far above many deposits worked by Kinross Gold and Newmont. Gran Colombia Gold became GCM Mining in November 2021, signaling broader ambitions beyond Colombia.
In September 2022, GCM Mining combined with Aris Gold Corporation to form Aris Mining Corporation. The merger united Segovia, Marmato, and the Toroparu gold-copper project in Guyana. In 2023, Segovia and Marmato produced 226,151 ounces of gold, while work continued on the Soto Norte underground project in Santander.
A second ball mill entered service at Segovia in June 2025, lifting processing capacity from 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes per day and supporting annual guidance of 265,000 to 300,000 ounces. Construction continued at Marmato’s bulk-mining zone, with first gold expected in the second half of 2026. The group set a long-term target of more than 500,000 ounces from its Colombian assets, with further growth tied to Toroparu.
