Among them were the Swedish company Flygt, founded in 1901; the American company Goulds Pumps, operating since 1848; the Italian company Lowara, founded in 1968; and the German company Wedeco, established in 2004. From the very beginning, the company focused on growth through innovation and acquisitions. In 2012, it acquired MJK Automation. In 2013, Xylem bought the Canadian company Pure Technologies, which specialized in pipeline diagnostics.
In 2016, Xylem acquired Sensus for $ 1.7 billion. In 2017, Visenti and Tideland Signal joined the company. These deals helped develop analytics and navigation technology.
In 2018, Xylem acquired Pure Technologies for $507 million. The company specializes in noninvasive pipeline diagnostics. In 2019, Xylem added EmNet and Analytix. These companies developed solutions for stormwater management and water quality monitoring.
The largest acquisition took place in 2021. That year, the company purchased Evoqua Water Technologies for $ 4.3 billion. In 2022, the French company Metasphere joined the portfolio. It developed digital twins for hydraulic systems.

The company was formed through the separation of the water division from ITT Corporation. The future publicly traded company was incorporated under the legal name ITT WCO, Inc. on May 4, 2011. It became Xylem Inc. on July 14. The company introduced the logo on October 30, and shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker XYL on November 1. The former ITT divisions entered the market as an independent group focused on water technologies.
The logo is based on the lowercase word xylem in turquoise-blue. The identity relies on a single line of lettering. The letters form a unified horizontal wordmark. The sans-serif typeface has rounded forms and uniform stroke widths. The lowercase treatment gives the name a compact appearance.
The main detail appears at the beginning of the word. The letters “x” and “y” share a wavy line. The curve runs through both letters and resembles intersecting water flows. The rounded letters “l,” “e,” and “m” follow the connected pair. The lettering suggests water through the characters’ form.
