The redesign moves away from the abstract geometric emblem used previously and brings in a structured, symbolic approach that highlights the school’s academic focus and architectural history.
The old logo featured a hexagonal shape with a minimalist, abstract design. Its color scheme included yellow and green, directly reflecting the university’s traditional colors. The typography used a modern sans-serif font, with “Cal Poly” in bold, to establish a visual hierarchy. The overall design had a technological and corporate feel, emphasizing innovation.
The new Cal Poly Pomona logo takes a different approach. At the center, it features a stylized illustration of Cal Poly Pomona’s historic tower. Alongside it stands a palm tree, symbolizing the campus and its unique identity within the California Polytechnic system. The shift strengthens the university’s connection to its history while keeping the visual identity familiar.
The previous sans-serif font has been replaced with a serif typeface, giving the design a more academic and traditional look. The new letterforms bring a sense of stability and prestige, aligning with the visual style often associated with higher education institutions.
The color palette still reflects the university’s established identity, but the shades of green and gold have been adjusted to warmer tones. The change adds depth to the composition and strengthens the connection to the school’s long-standing visual identity.
