Extellis Unveils New Logo and Brand Identity

Extellis Logo New

“Extellis” works with satellite imagery of Earth. The company grew out of technology from “Duke University” and uses “synthetic aperture radar.” The method helps observe the surface in near real time, day or night, and in different weather conditions. The data is used in agriculture, transportation, subsidence detection, and monitoring.

“Hoodzpah” built the new mark around a satellite flare. In the logo, a point of light travels along a circular path, forming the letter “e.” The symbol conveys orbit, observation, signal, a burst of data, and a view from above. It does not literally copy a satellite, but shows the work of “Extellis” through a light image, revealing hidden patterns on Earth.

Extellis Logo Evolution

The old mark tried to turn the “E” into an abstract satellite, but the form came across as unclear. The new icon became more composed. The star flare at the center adds a feeling of precise observation. At the same time, the circular line connects the mark with orbit and radar scanning. The logo looks less like a standard tech emblem and better conveys the specifics of “SAR” imaging.

The wordmark is set in “Alverata” by Gerard Unger. For a satellite company, a serif feels unusual because the category more often uses cold sans serifs and sci-fi codes. “Alverata” lends “Extellis” a scientific, research-driven tone. The Roman letterforms pair with the themes of observation, mapping, discovery, and long-term knowledge of Earth.

The color foundation also moves away from clichés. Instead of black space and white interface diagrams, the brand uses a warm orange gradient connected to sunrise and the emergence of an image. The “SAR” image motif supports the mark. At first, the data looks like an X-ray; then it becomes a readable layer with points, paths, and highlighted areas.

The “Extellis” logo presents satellite technology without a dry engineering mask. The flare, orbit, letter “e,” and “Alverata” together convey the image of a company that views Earth from above and explains its work through light, observation, and practical value to real industries.
