Founded in 2016, FMovies is a collection of sites dedicated to streaming and downloading movies and TV series for free. Its rapid growth in popularity is attributed to its vast library offering countless movies and TV series without any fees. Unfortunately, this was realized at the expense of hosting unauthorized, pirated content.

By the end of its first year, FMovies was removed from Google search results due to copyright law violations. The situation escalated in 2017 when ABS-CBN, a Filipino broadcaster, sued FMovies, resulting in the site being fined $210,000 for copyright infringement.

Regardless, FMovies continued its operations, though it did not escape the scrutiny of the US government, which named it a piracy center in 2018. As FMovies gained notoriety, various countries and ISPs took steps to block access to the site, given its primary focus on distributing unlicensed content.

To stay ahead of the curve, FMovies frequently changed its domain names, moving from one address to another, such as FMovies.to, FMovies.is, and others. However, in 2022 and 2023, increased regulatory pressure led to the closure of several FMovies core domains. Although the main domains have been shut down, several mirror sites continue to distribute unauthorized material.
