Beiqi Foton Motor Corporation, known simply as Foton Motor, was established in 1996 as a commercial vehicle manufacturer. In its formative years, Foton focused on manufacturing various vehicles, including heavy-duty, pickup, and medium- and light-duty buses. In its early endeavors, it utilized technology licensed from MAN, a renowned German truck manufacturer.

Foton initiated its research and development efforts in 2003, culminating in the launching of the Cummins-powered Auman series of heavy trucks. This series rapidly propelled Foton to become one of the top-heavy truck producers in China.

In the subsequent decade, Foton broadened its manufacturing scope to include passenger vehicles, introducing SUVs, pickups, and vans. This expansion occurred under its proprietary brands and through strategic partnerships with international companies.

2012 was pivotal in Foton’s history when its parent company, Beiqi Foton Motor, was incorporated into the Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC Group).

By 2016, Foton had cemented its place as one of China’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, boasting annual sales of over 200,000 trucks and buses.

In recent years, Foton has been investing in the future of automotive technology, delving into new energy vehicles, smart connected vehicles, and autonomous driving technologies.

Today, Foton offers a comprehensive selection of commercial vehicles, including buses, trucks, pickups, SUVs, and electric vehicles. The company has a global reach, with its products available in over 100 countries worldwide.
