The use of modern technologies and the latest developments makes products under the Gigabyte logo known and in demand. As the logo shows, the company is moving towards portability and downsizing its gadgets.
On April 30, 1986, Pei-Chen Yeh registered Gigabyte Industrial Co., Ltd. in Taipei with a capital of NT$700,000. The company began with a small research team working on IBM PC-compatible motherboards. Within months, its capital rose to NT$5 million. In 1987, Gigabyte established R&D and international sales divisions and released its first motherboard under its own brand.
By the late 1980s and early 1990s, the motherboard market had become tougher. ASUS, founded in 1989 by former Acer engineers, quickly became Gigabyte’s main rival. MSI also competed in the same field, including gaming-oriented hardware.
In 1999, Gigabyte introduced Dual BIOS, which uses two independent BIOS chips to protect motherboards against failed firmware updates. The same year, it was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange under ticker 2376, gaining access to outside capital.
In 2006, Gigabyte announced a joint venture with ASUS, but the partnership soon ended. That year, it launched Ultra Durable motherboards with thicker copper layers and solid capacitors rated for 50,000 hours, addressing the common capacitor failures of the early 2000s. In 2007, Gigabyte developed a software-controlled power supply.
In 2010, Taiwan’s trade council ranked Gigabyte 17th among the top Taiwanese global brands. In 2011, it released an Intel Z68 motherboard with mSATA and Intel Smart Response support. In 2014, Gigabyte launched Aorus as a gaming hardware line. By Q1 2015, shipments reached 4.8 million motherboards, allowing Gigabyte to surpass ASUS by supply volume.
Meaning and History
The parent company launched the logo almost simultaneously with the manufacturing plant. The developers focused on clarity, alignment, and geometric accuracy. To do this, they used bold and sans-serif capital letters. Under the word “Gigabyte,” they placed the second part of the brand name, “Technology.” It is made in smaller capital letters.
Another option contains not only verbal but also graphic elements. Particular attention is paid to the uppercase “G.” Its lower-right corner has been cut off, and a small isosceles triangle has been added. This makes the brand name recognizable and stylish.
What is Gigabyte?
Gigabyte, or Gigabyte Technology, is a leading global supplier of motherboards. It also covers various types of computer equipment and has existed since 1986. Its founder is Pei-Chen Yeh. The company’s headquarters is in New Taipei, Taiwan. It also has an office in California, USA.
Font and Colors
The designers sought to emphasize the Taiwanese company’s core features: precision, individuality, responsibility, reliability, and professionalism. For this, strict lines were used in both words and graphics.
The big letter “G” looks modern in both geometric proportions and color contrast. The triangle gives the logo stability, energizes it, reflects it, and demonstrates strength. All elements are placed on a white background, colored blue and red.
