Kamala Devi Harris

Kamala Devi Harris was born in Oakland, California, on October 20, 1964. Her father, Donald Harris, was an economics professor, and her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a breast cancer researcher. Harris received her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and economics from Howard University, one of the historically black colleges in the US. She continued her education at the University of California, Hastings, graduating with a Juris Doctor.

Kamala Harris began her legal career as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California, handling cases involving sexual offenses and violence. In 2003, she became the first woman and the first person of South Asian and African-American descent to be elected District Attorney of San Francisco. Under her leadership, she introduced innovative crime-fighting initiatives, including the “Back on Track” program, which assisted non-violent offenders in reintegrating into society.

Harris was elected California’s Attorney General in 2010, becoming the state’s first female and African-American attorney general. She held this position until 2017, actively opposing crime, fraud, and abuse in the real estate industry. She gained national recognition for her work on claims against national banks during the mortgage crisis.

In 2016, Kamala Harris was elected to represent California in the US Senate, where she served on the Senate’s Intelligence, Judiciary, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees. Her persistent and incisive questioning during Senate hearings gained her widespread recognition.

In August 2020, Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for president, chose Harris as his vice-presidential running mate. After Biden and Harris won the election in November 2020, Kamala Harris took office as Vice President of the United States on January 20, 2021, making history as the first Asian-American, woman, and African-American to hold this position.

Tim Walz

Timothy James Walz was born in West Point, Nebraska, on April 6, 1964. His family emphasized hard work and community involvement. After high school, Walz attended Chadron State College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science. He later earned a master’s degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Walz served in the National Guard, rising to sergeant first class. After his military service, he taught geography and social science at a Minnesota high school, where he was named Teacher of the Year for his aptitude for teaching and leadership.

In 2006, Tim Walz was elected to represent Minnesota’s first congressional district in the US Congress. He focused on healthcare, agriculture, and veterans’ issues as a representative. Walz supported programs for rural development and farming areas and efforts to improve the healthcare system for veterans.

In 2018, Tim Walz was elected as Minnesota’s governor. In this role, he continued to work on healthcare, education, and economic development. Walz prioritized assisting small businesses, fostering economic innovation, and expanding all Minnesotans’ access to high-quality healthcare and education.

Kamala Harris announced her intention to run for president of the United States in 2023 and selected Tim Walz as her vice-presidential running mate. Given their extensive experience and commitment to public service, Democratic Party supporters enthusiastically embraced this combination of candidates.
