By the 2010s, Jacobs had begun using a logo consisting of a large “JACOBS” wordmark. The separate emblem and the “Engineering Group” line were removed, leaving the company’s shortened name. The group used that name in corporate materials. At the same time, the full form, Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., remained its primary legal name.
The name was set in uppercase letters using a heavy sans-serif typeface with vertical strokes. Condensed proportions and narrow spacing made the wordmark compact. Thick lines paired with slightly rounded edges softened the letterforms. The team made minor outline adjustments while preserving a consistent style throughout the wordmark.
The logo retained the blue color from Jacobs’ previous identity. It appeared in corporate reports, project documentation, and other materials produced by the engineering group. After the company adopted the shortened name, the color maintained a connection with the previous version of the logo.
2019 – today
In the Jacobs logo unveiled on November 25, 2019, a small gap separated the upper vertical section of the “J” from its lower curve. The top of the letter resembled a heavy block, while the bottom formed a large hook. The uppercase “J” was followed by the lowercase letters “acobs,” replacing the former “JACOBS” spelling. The name, derived from the founder’s surname, changed from blue to black. The sans-serif typeface combined thick strokes, rounded forms, and solid fills. The letter “J” served as the company emblem.
The update was developed in partnership with the international agency Siegel+Gale. The project lasted one year and included research into the views of employees, clients, and shareholders. More than 6,200 employees and 1,200 clients and shareholders participated in surveys, working groups, and interviews. Their feedback helped the team account for changes in Jacobs’ operations as it developed the new identity.
The business expanded after Jacobs acquired CH2M in December 2017, prompting the update. Jacobs brought together engineering services, infrastructure projects, government programs, technology, scientific fields, and complex professional services.
