Rapper Lil Peep’s short life was filled with fame and bright moments. It ended in 2017, just a few days after his 21st birthday. His real name was Gustav Elijah Åhr, the son of Harvard University alumni who dropped out to finish his studies online and devote time to music.
Lil Peep recorded his first tracks at home and published them on streaming services. You could say he grew up on the Internet because in real life, he felt like an outsider. Despite the problems at school and a cool relationship with his father, Gustav was cheerful and friendly in public. He always tried to help, and people took advantage of it. The idol of schoolchildren revealed his inner world only in the songs that he wrote. Almost all of the lyrics were filled with the theme of depression and drugs, and the style resembled a mixture of hip-hop, rock, rap, and emo music. Lil Peep peaked in popularity in 2016 with the release of the Hellboy mixtape. Meaning and History
The rap artist’s logo design resembles the tattoos that adorned his body. Peep had a striking appearance at school: he drew designs on his face and dyed his hair pink to separate himself from an unfriendly society. The modern Lil Peep logo didn’t appear immediately, as Gustav made music under the pseudonym Trap Goose early in his career. He took on a new stage name in 2015 with his debut mixtape, Part One. There is some nostalgia here because my mother called him “Peep” when he was a child. The artist’s graphic contains a handwritten nickname. The case of the letters is difficult to determine: “i” and “e” appear lowercase, and both “L” and “P” appear uppercase. Font and Colors
The most famous cover of Lil Peep belongs to the fourth Crybaby mixtape. It contains a black-and-white image of a bird wrapped in a ribbon labeled “Cry Baby.” The bird flies, flapping its wings, and tears drip from its black eye. The album title is set in an elegant font with decorative patterns. The rapper had a similar tattoo above his right eyebrow. He did it because, as a child, he often complained and thought of himself as a crybaby.
The author uses the same font for inscriptions on both the main logo and the album’s emblem. Given his creativity, Lil Peep may have invented it himself. The musician’s nickname is “scratched,” with uneven, careless letters and many short lines. Against its background, the name of the Crybaby mixtape stands out in stark contrast, written in neat, ornate handwriting. The color scheme is minimalistic: black on white.
