The Municipality of Urk has introduced a redesigned logo that honors the town’s history while presenting a cleaner and more structured look. The new design moves away from the previous emblem’s geographic focus, opting for a more symbolic approach highlighting heritage and simplicity.
The old logo was built around Urk’s shape as an island, reinforcing its maritime background. Radiating lines represented fishing traditions and navigation, visually tying the town’s identity to the sea. A large letter “U” combined the elements, while a blue and gray palette reflected the coastal setting. The typography was solid and slightly heavy, with letters arranged in a scattered layout.
The new version is more compact and refined. The main element is now a shield featuring a stylized “U,” resembling a coat of arms. The design strengthens the connection to historical heraldry while maintaining a modern feel. The shield is split diagonally, with deep navy blue on one side and a lighter blue on the other, adding depth while keeping the maritime theme.
The typography has been updated for better readability and balance. The word “gemeente” appears lighter, while “Urk” is bold, making the town’s name stand out. This creates a clear visual structure, making the logo adaptable across different uses.
A vertical line has been added to the design, reinforcing symmetry and stability. It serves as a subtle guide that strengthens the composition without taking focus away from the main elements.
