Serafino Fine Italian Leather & Accessories is a family boutique founded by Liz and Hasan Tehrani. Liz grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, while Hasan spent many years in Florence, Italy, where he worked in the leather trade and opened his own leather goods store. During his time in Italy, he built connections with family workshops that produced leather goods.
After returning to the United States, the Tehranis opened Serafino around 2017 at 1127 King Street in Old Town Alexandria. The boutique name comes from an Italian name and reflects the origin of the products sold in the store. The assortment includes leather bags, jackets, wallets, accessories, and stationery from Italian manufacturers.
From the beginning, Serafino focused on direct cooperation with small family-owned businesses in Italy. Hasan travels to Italy at least twice a year to select products in person from workshops. During these trips, the boutique temporarily closes because he manages purchasing and daily operations himself. The store works without major suppliers or mass-production companies.
Serafino operates in the same market as large leather brands such as Coach and Fossil, which have extensive retail networks across the United States. The Alexandria boutique follows a smaller retail model based on direct relationships with Italian producers. In 2024 and 2025, Serafino was included in Alexandria’s official tourism guide in the “Fashionable Finds” section.
Meaning and History
What is Serafino?
It is an Italian company that creates premium leather accessories. Production is based on a long-standing tradition of craftsmanship, where experienced artisans handcraft each piece. The work uses high-quality, genuine leather supplied from well-known Italian tanneries. The assortment includes briefcases, wallets, bags, and other accessories with a stylish design and reliability.
2017 – today
The Serafino logo looks as if it were handcrafted in one of those family ateliers in Italy from which the boutique sources bags and accessories. At the top are two mirrored “S” letters, forming a figure with smooth lines reminiscent of a heraldic pattern. The curls are neatly executed and soft. Golden accents along the sides create elegant symmetry, lending a sense of craftsmanship and nobility.
The brand name “SERAFINO” is written in a strict yet elegant font. Each letter is elongated upward as if gently stretched to emphasize its form. The letter “F” is taller than the others, making it stand out and adding an extra accent.
At the bottom is the fine inscription “FINE ITALIAN LEATHER & ACCESSORIES.” The small uppercase letters appear neat, highlighting the boutique’s premium focus: leather goods and accessories from Italian workshops.
The entire logo is executed in two colors that organically convey the product’s atmosphere. The deep burgundy shade of the text and upper emblem evokes the colors of wine or leather. At the same time, gold highlights the exclusivity and premium status of the items displayed in the boutique, which are sourced from small, family-owned Italian manufacturers in Florence and Naples.
