From humanoid androids and industrial manipulators to toy robots and science fiction characters, the “Robots” section features logos of brands in the robotics industry. iRobot, with its Roomba home vacuum cleaner; Sony, with its AIBO robot dog; Honda, with its ASIMO humanoid; and dozens of startups developing service robots for hotels, hospitals, and restaurants represent the consumer and commercial sides of the industry. Alongside real manufacturers, the section may feature fictional robots from movies, cartoons, and video games, such as R2-D2 and Optimus Prime. The section is broader in scope than Robotic Systems. It encompasses the entire cultural and technological context associated with the concept of a robot as a machine endowed with elements of autonomous behavior.
