Sega Logos and Brands

The Japanese company, which has gone from manufacturing arcade machines for American military bases to one of the pillars of the console industry, occupies the “Sega” section. The console lineup included Mega Drive (Genesis in North America), Dreamcast, Game Gear, and Saturn. At the same time, Sonic the Hedgehog has remained the company’s mascot and a Hollywood movie star since 1991. Withdrawing from the console business after the Dreamcast’s failure in 2001 turned Sega into a publisher and developer of games for other platforms. Yakuza (Like a Dragon), Total War, and Persona from subsidiary Atlus make up the current portfolio. This section documents the visual history of the brand, whose “SEGA!” cry on the start screen became a cultural marker for the 1990s generation.
