Zenvo: Brand overview

Zenvo began in Præstø, about 80 km south of Copenhagen, with Troels Vollertsen, a mechanic who had modified mopeds, built race cars, and run a small workshop before attempting Denmark’s first serious supercar project. The company was originally registered as Nordic Sports Car A/S, and the name Zenvo came from letters in Vollertsen’s surname.

The prototype was completed in December 2008. In 2009, the company became Zenvo Automotive A/S and introduced the ST1, designed by Christian Brandt and Jesper Hermann. Its 6.8-liter V8 used both a supercharger and a turbocharger, producing 1,104 horsepower. Production was limited to 15 hand-built cars, priced at 660,000 euros, with exports in mind because Danish registration taxes made domestic use extremely costly.

Zenvo gained wider attention through Top Gear, but the ST1’s public debut was rough. During testing at Dunsfold, a cooling failure caused a fire, and a subsequent wet-lap attempt produced a weaker time than that of a BMW M5. Another fire at the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix in 2015 kept pressure on the young brand, which was trying to stand near names such as Koenigsegg and Pagani.

The company kept developing. In 2017, Zenvo unveiled the one-off TS1 GT Sleipnir at the Geneva Motor Show, featuring a 5.8-liter twin-supercharged engine producing 1,163 horsepower. In 2018, the TSR-S introduced an active rear wing that tilted in corners. That year, Zenvo sold its first car to a Danish buyer and came under the control of a Czech investor, while production remained in Præstø. In 2023, Zenvo announced the Aurora Agil and Tur, built around its own V12 engine.

Although the brand debuted in the early 2000s, it began production only by the end of the decade. The debut prototype of the Zenvo ST1 sports car was completed in the last month of 2008, but production began in 2009. Throughout its existence, the company has produced only fifteen models. They were mainly exported since such equipment is incredibly expensive for the domestic market. But in 2018, a local buyer was found who forked out 10.5 million Danish kroner, which amounts to approximately US$ 1.65 million. He purchased the red Zenvo TSR-S, one of the most recent models.

In total, the manufacturer’s arsenal includes several options – both already manufactured and planned for release. They are produced in limited editions: for example, the Zenvo TS1 is produced in five units per year. There is also a grand road tourer, a track sports car, and a road TSR. But, despite the small parties, the company remains afloat: it never planned to change hands. Moreover, the firm has retained the same management and identity approved at the time of its inception.

What is Zenvo?

This is Denmark’s first and only supercar manufacturer, handcrafting some of the world’s most prestigious and powerful cars at its factory in Præstø. The company’s unique engineering approach, featuring in-house twin-supercharged V8 engines and innovative elements like the “Centripetal” rear wing that tilts during turns, sets it apart in the hypercar industry. Flagship models like the ST1 and TSR series deliver more than 1,000 horsepower and are produced in limited quantities, typically no more than 5 cars per year.

By the way, the founder named the brand after himself: he took the last three and the first two letters of his surname. The result was “VOllertSEN,” which became the company’s corporate logo. The only change affected “S”: for the sake of convenience of pronunciation, it became “Z.” Consequently, this car brand has only one logo.

Zenvo Symbol

Traditionally, the brand’s mark is a shield that embodies the spirit of chivalry, confidence, dedication, and drive, which is incredibly important for race cars. It is framed along the entire perimeter by a silvery stripe that protrudes above the surface, appearing voluminous due to correctly ungrouped shadows.

The shield is divided into two zones: text and graphic. At the top is the company name, separated by a straight horizontal line starting at the bottom of the “Z.” In fact, this is its elongated leg. Under the word “Zenvo” is a geometric structure consisting of two shapes: the first resembles a steam locomotive’s pipe, and the second resembles the front of a locomotive. This idea is prompted by a vertical line that visually divides the triangle into the graphite and black sides. This technique makes the figure three-dimensional, as if carved in the middle, reminiscent of the train-track cleaner.

All stripes on the icon are clear, even, and strict. It speaks of an unyielding manufacturing strategy and a desire to move forward. Although the elements are gray, they are visible against a black background. There are also light highlights at the shield’s edge, formed by a gradient transition from dark to light. They are concentrated in the corner areas.

Font and Colors

The logo’s typeface is close to the Stereo Gothic 600 sans-serif. The difference between them is the rounded corners of the letters, whereas in the original, they are sharp.

The basic colors that the manufacturer has chosen are reminiscent of monochrome. But in reality, this is not the case, as the emblem comes in several shades of gray: graphite, silver, metallic, and light gray. They are complemented by black.
