Admiral: Brand overview

Admiral was founded in 1991 as a division of the Brockbank Group by Henry Engelhardt and David Stevens, both graduates of INSEAD. Operations officially began on January 2, 1993, with a focus on car insurance.

In 1997, Admiral introduced new insurance brands: Bell for new drivers, Gladiator for commercial vehicles, and Diamond for women drivers. In 2000, it launched Elephant, the UK’s first online insurer, and in 2002, the price comparison service Confused.com. Admiral successfully went public on the London Stock Exchange in 2004.

Since 2006, the company has expanded internationally, introducing the Spanish brand Balumba (2006), the Italian ConTe.it (2008), the US-based Elephant Auto (2009), and the French L’olivier Assurance (2010). In 2015, Admiral introduced MultiCover, combining home and car insurance, and continued its international growth by establishing AECS in Spain in response to Brexit.

In 2020, Milena Mondini de Focatiis became the company’s first female CEO. Today, Admiral is a major financial group with 11 million customers worldwide.

The name Admiral is set in a simple sans-serif typeface with a strict appearance. The blue text color indicates the stability and professionalism expected from a company in insurance and financial services. The letters are dense, with balanced proportions and a slight slant.
