ANTA Sports: Brand overview

ANTA Sports was founded in 1991 by entrepreneur Ding Shizhong in Fujian Province. The company began as a small factory producing athletic footwear. In 1994, its own brand, ANTA, was registered, and sales under this name began. The first brand ambassador was Olympic champion Kong Linghui. His participation in the 1999 advertising campaign brought the company nationwide recognition.

In 2001, the first flagship store was opened in Beijing. By 2005, the ANTA network included about three thousand retail locations. In 2007, the company listed its shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The funds raised were directed toward technological development and improvements in product design. Since 2009, the company has been a partner of the Chinese Olympic Committee and has supplied uniforms to the national team.

In the 2010s, the company expanded its footwear and apparel lines. By 2015, it had 8,000 stores. During this period, it began developing a multibrand strategy. ANTA acquired the British company Sprandi and the Japanese Descente China, and also expanded the Fila China franchise.

In 2019, the company completed its largest deal to date. ANTA acquired the Finnish company Amer Sports for $ 5.2 billion. The portfolio included the brands Wilson, Salomon, Arc’teryx, and Atomic.

In the 2020s, the company invested in automation, production technologies, and international expansion. In 2022, basketball player Klay Thompson became a brand ambassador. In 2024, the development of the Arc’teryx retail network began in China.

ANTA Sports manages more than twelve thousand stores. The company remains the largest Chinese producer of sportswear and successfully competes with global industry leaders.

The brand’s logo, created in 1994, consisted solely of a symbol associated with sports, running, and an active lifestyle. In shape, the symbol resembles a running track or a gently curved line, clearly evoking an athlete in motion. The simplicity and conciseness of the symbol convey speed, harmoniously resonating with the company’s field of activity.

The logo’s sole color is red, which also emphasizes the brand’s Chinese origins. In Chinese culture, red symbolizes energy and inner strength, which aligns perfectly with the nature of sports and physical activity that the brand focuses on.

The ANTA Sports logo was updated in conjunction with Anta Sports Products Limited’s listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, when the brand became public and international. The symbol remained unchanged: a red line resembling a running track reflects the company’s athletic profile and its Chinese origins.

The name ANTA appeared beneath the symbol. The text is rendered in a serif font slanted to the right. The text color is black. The letters are uppercase, sans-serif, and stylistically similar to typefaces such as Impact or Eurostile Bold Extended. The font’s slight slant conveys the energy of sports.

This new text element reflects the company’s new status in the international market and its consolidation as a public brand, while maintaining a connection to its original style.
