Bank Central Asia was founded on February 21, 1957, by a group of Indonesian entrepreneurs led by Liem Moen Hian. Initially, the bank served the Chinese-Indonesian business community and offered basic lending and deposit services. By the 1960s, its branch network covered major cities on the island of Java.

After the economic reforms that began in 1965, BCA strengthened its position and expanded lending activities. The bank modernized its operations and, in 1975, received authorization to conduct foreign exchange transactions. In 1977, it became a public company. In the 1980s, the bank came under the control of the Salim Group, which accelerated its growth.

In 1990, BCA implemented an ATM network. It was one of the first such networks in the country. By the mid-1990s, the bank had become the largest private bank in Indonesia. The 1997 financial crisis led to temporary nationalization. The government invested about 60 trillion rupiah to stabilize the situation.

After restructuring in 2000, the bank restored operations and regained customer confidence. In 2001–2002, privatization took place. A consortium led by Djarum Group acquired a controlling stake.

Since 2003, BCA has been developing digital services. Its areas include internet and mobile banking, contactless payments, video consultations, and microcredit. In 2018, a venture division was established for investments in fintech.

By 2024, BCA manages assets totaling more than 1,200 trillion rupiah. It remains the largest private bank in the country. The bank develops partnerships with e-commerce and introduces artificial intelligence-based solutions.

It is the largest private bank in Indonesia and one of the leaders of the country’s financial sector by asset volume. The organization provides a range of services to individual and corporate clients, including deposits, lending, transfers, foreign exchange, and online banking. Its structure includes divisions for card services, corporate insurance, and export-import operations. The bank operates the most extensive network of branches and ATMs in the country.

Initially, the identity of Indonesia’s largest private bank, “BCA,” was defined by a carefully developed visual image. The logo, created in the style of line engraving, combined artistic aesthetics with precise execution. The style was built on symmetry and carefully considered details.

At the center of the logo was a circle containing a globe. Its angle made it possible to see the outlines of Eurasia, Africa, and Australia. The letters “BCA” were drawn across the globe’s surface, harmoniously integrated into the grid of meridians and parallels. Hence, the symbols merged with the map into a single image.

Decorative elements extended from both sides of the central circle, mirrored on the left and right. These details were complex ornaments resembling leaves and feathers, with many fine lines and dense texture.

The logo was monochrome, using black and gray shades. Black was used for the outlines and shadows, while gray filled the inner areas.

The “BCA” logo combined the visual language of a commercial brand with artistic execution. It created an impression of reliability, global reach, and attention to detail, reflecting the bank’s importance and status in the Indonesian market.

In 1977, the “BCA” image adopted a simpler format than in previous periods. The bank introduced a concise mark on a blue-and-green background. The identity reflected the company’s desire for clarity and ease of perception.

On the left side of the logo, a square with convex sides appeared, containing a symbol resembling a fan or sprout with five petals. The forms of the mark are smooth and drop-shaped, joined at a common lower point and spreading upward, evoking growth and opening. Below the symbol, the inscription “BCA GROUP” is set in a semicircle in uppercase letters.

The right side is occupied by the full name of the bank, “BANK CENTRAL ASIA.” The white type enhances contrast and improves the text’s visibility against the saturated background. All letters are uppercase.

The new mark’s form and color emphasized the company’s corporate maturity and professionalism while maintaining a connection to the aesthetic and cultural environment in which Indonesia’s largest private bank operated.

1977 – 1991

Another update to the logo of the Indonesian bank “BCA” preserved the previous image, slightly adjusting it to modern conditions. The bank’s symbol retained its former shape, a square with softly convex sides.

The abstract symbol in the center of the square is rendered in a rich dark blue. Its form did not change and is represented by a five-petal fan. Along the lower part of the square, the group name “BCA GROUP” curves in a semicircle, written in uppercase letters in the same blue color as the symbol.

The bank’s name, “BANK CENTRAL ASIA,” is placed below in large uppercase letters. The color matches the symbol’s main tone, and the typeface evokes “Franklin Gothic Heavy” with minor customizations.

At the bottom is the additional inscription “Prestasi Tradisi Perbankan Internasional,” combining lowercase and uppercase letters. The text emphasizes tradition and the institution’s international status.

The logo combines the previous style with careful refinements, reflecting the bank’s leadership in the financial industry.

When Indonesia’s “Bank Central Asia” slightly updated its visual style in 1991, the main emphasis fell on typography, while the previous symbol was again preserved. The logo is now presented in black, emphasizing the bank’s businesslike and strict character.

At the top is the symbol labeled “BCA.” The symbol’s appearance remained unchanged. On the right is an enlarged “BCA” abbreviation, set in a bold italic “Dynamo” typeface.

The lower part is separated by a thin horizontal line that highlights the bank name, “BANK CENTRAL ASIA.” The inscription is set in uppercase letters in a strict serif “Dynamo” typeface, closely resembling well-known classic fonts such as “Trajan” and “Times Bold.” The serifs added formality.

1995 – today

The current visual image of “Bank Central Asia” emerged amid the expansion of its branch network following the liberalization of the Indonesian banking sector. The new stage of identity simplified the already familiar image, focusing on a bright, functional presentation.

The overall structure of the logo did not change radically. The emblem remained on the left, while the “BCA” inscription stayed on the right. However, the lower section with additional text disappeared, leaving the image more concise.

The color changed to blue, emphasizing the corporate character.

The central symbol is still composed of five symmetrical, rounded elements resembling a flower or a young sprout. Along the lower edge of the mark, a small “GRUP BCA” inscription appeared. It was introduced to indicate the business structure in Indonesian, emphasizing its membership in a group of companies without changing the name.

The large “BCA” abbreviation on the right is set in the same bold typeface and closely resembles “Eurostile Bold Oblique.” The inscription color matches the emblem’s shade.
