Meaning and History
What is BTDB2?
This is a multiplayer tower defense game where players compete by building defenses while simultaneously attacking opponents. The gameplay revolves around using battle monkeys to destroy waves of balloons. Players can choose different strategies, develop heroes, and upgrade defensive structures. The game features various arenas, an advanced progression system, and numerous resource management options. The primary objective is to strike the right balance between defense and offense to emerge victorious in intense battles.
2021 – today
The Bloons TD Battles 2 logo appeared as part of a comprehensive effort to update the visual system of the entire Tower Defense series by Ninja Kiwi. The in-house team of artists took the well-known style as a basis but reworked it to meet new standards, enhancing the sense of volume and adding dynamic perception. The developers aimed to preserve continuity familiar to the audience, dating back to Bloons TD 5, while increasing the plasticity of forms and the expressiveness of color.
The construction of the emblem is built on two levels of text. The upper block combines the words “BLOONS TD.” The first word is colored in a blue-to-light-blue gradient, evoking associations of airiness. At the same time, the abbreviation “TD” is done in red-orange tones, forming contrast and visual separation. The main part of the composition is represented by the massive word “BATTLES,” written in rounded characters in a cool white-blue palette. The structure is completed by a large number “2” with pronounced perspective and warm shades, echoing the “TD” block.
The letter “O” in the word “BLOONS” is stylized as a balloon shape with a highlight and a narrowing at the bottom, resembling the tied knot of an air balloon. It refers to the game’s theme, in which balloons serve as the franchise’s key symbol.
The font was created based on typefaces developed by the studio specifically for the project. Heavyweight, smooth curves, and three-dimensional rendering mark the characters. Glossy accents and shadows enhance the arcade tone, emphasizing the gaming atmosphere.
The palette works on the contrast of cool and warm shades. Sky gradients combine with saturated red-orange accents, allowing for a hierarchy within the composition and evoking associations with the dynamics of battle.
Through the btdb2 emblem, the studio conveyed a unified trajectory in project development and reflected its connection to the franchise’s aesthetic.
