Concarneau, a city whose life is inseparably linked to the sea, has unveiled a new image. A place with a rich history of sailors and maritime traditions is entering a period of serious transformation. The city is developing within a new rhythm of life, environmental priorities, and economic challenges. The time has come for change, expressed through a new visual design.
The previous logo, created many years ago, no longer met current needs. It reflected the territory’s development only weakly, looked outdated, and was rarely recognized beyond Concarneau. Municipal authorities concluded that a new symbol was needed, one capable of conveying the sea’s role as the foundation of the city’s life and growth.
The agency Graphéine conducted in-depth research and identified Concarneau’s strengths. These include its unique maritime heritage, advantageous geographic location, high quality of life, and developed naval infrastructure. The analysis also revealed challenges related to an outdated image, demographic shifts, and attracting young professionals. The outcome of this work was the city’s new motto, “Concarneau, the spirit of the open sea,” reflecting the area’s open and energetic mindset.
At the core of the new identity is the word Eau, translated as “water.” The final letters of the logo form a wave, evoking the sea’s constant presence in the city’s life. A boat shape is embedded in the letter A, evoking seafaring traditions and an exploratory spirit. This detail emphasizes respect for the past and a forward-looking perspective.
A deep blue was chosen as the primary color to strengthen the connection to the maritime environment. The angular typography refers to Concarneau’s port and industrial history. Visual compositions echo maritime signal flags. The entire system is built on clear and recognizable forms suitable for use across different formats.
Concarneau did not receive just another logo. The city gained a living symbol of its current state, where the sea, tradition, innovation, and future development prospects come together.
