Seattle-based bakery Essential Baking has updated its brand identity and unveiled a new logo. Through its new look, the company highlighted its nearly 30-year history of artisanal baking, its love of natural ingredients, and its simple recipes. The main goal was to make the brand stand out more on the shelf and emphasize its connection to local origins and the homey warmth of fresh bread.
Seattle-based agency People People completed the logo redesign. The team’s challenge was to blend the brand’s artisanal roots with a fresher aesthetic while capturing the lighthearted quirkiness characteristic of Seattle’s urban culture. The logo retained the old sun motif, familiar from the brand’s early years, but its appearance was changed. Instead of a scattering of small rays, a large symbol appeared, composed of petals resembling wheat grains. Inside is a loaf of bread, evoking the warmth of a bakery and fresh baked goods.
The color palette has become brighter, softer, and warmer. Yellow and orange tones reinforce the connection to nature and artisanal baking. The name ESSENTIAL BAKING is set in a simpler, more compact typeface, arranged in two lines, and looks more cohesive. The inscription EST 1994 is neatly integrated into the overall design and serves as a reminder of the company’s long history.
One of the most successful innovations was the color-coding system for the entire product line. Each type of bread now has its own packaging color. Yellow is used for classic focaccia, while purple is used for bread with raisins and nuts. This scheme makes it easier for shoppers to navigate the assortment, and the line itself looks more vibrant and cohesive.
An acidity scale has also been added to the packaging. It helps customers quickly understand the bread’s flavor profile and choose the right option. The “Made in Washington” label is also featured there, highlighting the brand’s regional origins and local traditions.
The company has remained true to its handcrafted methods and simple ingredients, but has presented its image in a warmer and more modern way. The new style effectively conveys the brand’s artisanal roots, natural origins, and open approach to customer communication.
