The National Football Federation of Guatemala manages the country’s major football tournaments and coordinates the activities of all national teams. The men’s and women’s teams represent the country in competitions within and beyond the region. Although Guatemala has not yet competed in the final stages of the World Cup, its teams have a rich history and a prominent reputation in Central America.
The previous team logo featured a stylized shield with an abstract Quetzal, the national bird of Guatemala, surrounding a football. Despite a good concept, the execution was overly complicated, causing the bird to get lost amidst numerous details and small strokes.
The Quetzal takes on a completely different mood and character in the new version. It is depicted mid-flight, wings spread wide, clearly conveying energy and freedom. An interesting decision was made for the bird to cross the boundaries of the shield as if ignoring its limits. This emphasizes the idea that the Quetzal rejects constraints and always aspires upwards. The logo’s creators explain that such an image symbolizes a passion for freedom and a desire to win.
The logo’s style has become clean, elegant, yet dynamic. The vibrant blue shade is borrowed from Guatemala’s national flag, giving the logo recognizability. The new shield now contrasts with gold, visually balancing the composition and adding solidity.
The font used in branding is unusual and striking, creating a special atmosphere around the national team. This font, VVDS Fifties, is condensed and clear, adding individuality to the entire identity.
Additional graphic elements inspired by ancient Mayan culture enhance the brand’s authenticity, reminding us of the country’s deep history. These patterns strengthen the identity and highlight Guatemala’s cultural heritage in every element of the team’s design.
As a result of the rebranding, a strong sports identity emerged, filled with national pride and a spirit of freedom. The logo can inspire players and fans alike and proudly represent Guatemala internationally.
