KATSEYE, the girl group formed through the 2023 reality competition The Dream Academy, has launched a new logo and visual style designed by the Seoul-based agency HuskyFox. The update comes alongside their debut album, SIS (Soft Is Strong), and reflects their cultural diversity and dynamic energy while visually connecting to the meaning behind their name—a nod to the cat’s eye gemstone.
The old logo featured a simple geometric sans-serif typeface. It did the job but lacked personality and didn’t capture the spirit of a group ready to make waves on the global music scene. The letter spacing felt uneven, and the design gave a temporary vibe, like it held a spot for something more meaningful.
The new logo marks a big shift with a custom slab-serif typeface. Unlike the minimal, clean look of the original, this version leans into bold, flowing forms with expressive curves and strong serifs. The letters have an ink-like texture, with varying densities that create movement and depth—reminiscent of the shifting reflections seen in a cat’s eye gemstone. The fluid effect reflects how the group’s identity keeps evolving, blending cultural influences into one cohesive vision.
The typography stands out thanks to the contrast between thick, saturated strokes and lighter, delicate transitions. Some inner spaces in the letters are almost closed, while others stay open, adding to the sense of transformation and flow. The design mirrors the members’ story: six individuals from around the world coming together, each bringing something unique to the mix while forming a strong, united front.
Inspired by the cat’s eye gemstone, the emblem is a standout part of the new look. It features a dual structure—a solid outer shape surrounding a fluid, shifting core. The contrast represents stability and growth, reflecting the group’s strength and adaptability. Inside, gradient hues move between soft pinks, lilacs, and deep blues, adding depth and symbolizing each member’s individuality and shared dreams. The emblem’s ever-changing form speaks to their journey, hinting at endless potential and creative evolution.
The “DREAM CHARM,” a motif woven into the emblem’s design, adds another layer of meaning. It represents each member’s aspirations while symbolizing their collective dreams.
The rebranding isn’t limited to the logo—it shapes the entire visual direction of the debut album, SIS. The album art and promotional materials use the same gradient color palette and fluid typography, reinforcing themes of strength, softness, and individuality. The vibrant pinks, purples, and deep blues reflect the emotional depth and bold presence that define the group’s music and style.
While the bold, unconventional typeface might seem unexpected for a pop group, it steers clear of the usual clichés tied to girl group branding. Instead of leaning into overly sweet or youth-centric designs, it embraces a sophisticated, modern feel that speaks to a global audience beyond typical pop trends.
KATSEYE’s new logo and visual identity ultimately mark a fresh direction for girl group branding. The flowing, expressive typography and gemstone-inspired emblem capture the heart of the group’s multicultural background, artistic ambition, and vibrant energy. By blending meaningful symbolism with contemporary design, HuskyFox has crafted an identity that feels current and timeless—perfect for a group ready to impact the global stage.
