Luigi’s Mansion 2 hd: Brand overview

The unveiling of Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD at Nintendo Direct in June 2023 marked the beginning of the game’s history. This is a remaster of the original Luigi’s Mansion 2, released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013 and branded as Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon in North America.

As part of their plan to re-release well-known Nintendo 3DS titles on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo decided to produce an HD version. This makes games previously exclusive to the handheld console playable by a larger audience.

The remaster was developed by Grezzo, a team renowned for producing excellent ports and remakes of Nintendo titles. They worked on enhancing the visuals and modifying the game to run on the Nintendo Switch’s more potent hardware.

While improving the visual components, particular attention was paid to maintaining the game’s original gameplay and feel during development. The goal was to appeal to experienced gamers and those who had played the original edition.

It was revealed by the producer that the remaster would feature all of the game’s original missions and material in addition to the multiplayer mode ScareScraper, which can now be played online.

During production, some adjustments were made to the controls to better fit the Nintendo Switch controllers with the game. The fundamentals of the game, such as using the Poltergust to capture ghosts, didn’t change, though.

The company also revealed that local multiplayer would be supported, enabling cooperative play on a single console.

The remastered version is supposed to be released in summer 2024. Although the release date is unknown, the developer pledges to share additional details in the run-up to the big reveal.

As part of its attempts to increase the number of games available on the Nintendo Switch, the company is remastering some of its old titles to provide gamers with a better experience on a more contemporary platform.

The developers used the same logo lettering to connect all parts of the Luigi’s Mansion series. The playful font style makes it clear that despite the cemetery theme, there are no truly frightening moments in the video games. While the main character deals with restless souls, it feels like a fun everyday activity.

More than half of the emblem is occupied by the phrase “Luigi’s Mansion,” divided into two lines. The designers wanted the letters to resemble ghosts, so they added two eyes to each. The result is amusing figures expressing various emotions: fear, surprise, curiosity, and caution. The round and oval cutouts without pupils look like holes in a sheet, which is the “canonical” ghost costume. The amusing improvised eyes are absent only from both “s” and the final “n.”

The letters are curved lines, resembling wriggling worms or quivering jelly. Waves throughout the text add a ghostly feel to the logo, as the uneven stripes are associated with something unstable, blurry, and elusive. This unconventional font matches the mood of Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, where there’s not even a hint of horror, and all the ghosts are funny and unrealistic.

The small letters glance at each other, trying to understand why a giant number “2” with a long “trunk” is looking at them. The two appear imposing, like an unbeatable boss at the game’s hardest level. Yet, it is a cute pink boss that can’t frighten anyone. The designers chose a highly childlike style to showcase the game’s harmlessness.

The Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD logo uses a gradient that creates a sense of fun. The letters combine bright green shades that smoothly transition into yellow and white, while the number “2” is pink, lightening towards the bottom. At the same time, each text element is enveloped in an otherworldly glow reminiscent of the bright shine of neon signs. Green is associated with slime and monsters, while pink creates a contrast, as it’s the color of positivity, innocence, and childhood. This creates an effect of surprise: what seems cute at first glance turns out to be very dangerous. This kind of dissonance causes a sense of unease.

Next to the two is a yellow trapezoid with the black inscription “HD.” These letters lack eyes and don’t look like mini-ghosts. However, they have short, sharp serifs reminiscent of devil horns. The spiky points give the Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD emblem a sinister touch but in the same playful manner. The four-sided base is slightly tilted, matching the overall chaotic style. At the same time, the straight lines create a faint sense of stability, as it’s the only element in the logo that doesn’t resemble melting jelly.
