Luigi’s logo is about fun challenges, unexpected twists, and a hero who knows how to surprise. Starting as a shadow of his famous brother, he gradually developed his character, style, and fans, for whom his adventures became just as exciting.
Luigi first appeared in March 1983 in the Game & Watch title Mario Bros., followed weeks later by the arcade game of the same name from Nintendo. Shigeru Miyamoto created him as Mario’s partner for two-player action, using green clothing to separate him from the red lead. In Super Mario Bros. (1985), Luigi still shared Mario’s abilities and sprite.
The 1986 Japanese sequel gave him higher, longer jumps but weaker traction and slower control. The 1988 US version made him taller and slimmer, establishing his familiar proportions. Super Mario Kart in 1992 gave him unique racing graphics, while Mario is Missing! placed him in a rare leading role.
Luigi became a full solo protagonist with Luigi’s Mansion, released for Nintendo GameCube in 2001. Armed with Professor E. Gadd’s Poltergust 3000, he searched a haunted mansion for Mario. The game defined him as nervous and easily frightened, yet willing to face danger. It became the console’s strongest launch seller in November 2001. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga followed in 2003, treating both brothers as equal heroes with separate abilities.
The company marked its 30th anniversary with the Year of Luigi from February 2013 to March 2014, releasing Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, New Super Luigi U, and Dr. Luigi. Miyamoto announced its end on February 18, 2014. Luigi’s Mansion 3 arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2019, adding Gooigi and expanded ghost-catching mechanics while continuing the series built around his separate identity.

Despite his shyness and caution, the hero is always ready to help, using his unusual abilities: a high jump and the ability to slide. His lines, expressive facial expressions, and funny demeanor have made him a well-known character in video games.

The emblem of Luigi, a character created by Nintendo, looks simple and recognizable. Luigi appeared in 1983 as the younger brother of the famous character Mario. Since his introduction, Luigi has been associated with green, which became central to his image and logo.
The logo features a green square with a white circle. In the center is the letter “L,” notable for its large size and simple shape. The letter is written in a bold font. Its vertical part is elongated, while the horizontal part is slightly shortened, making the letter appear asymmetrical yet distinctive, differentiating it from other Nintendo symbols.
The color scheme consists of just two colors: green and white. Green became Luigi’s signature color, distinguishing him from other characters in the Mario universe. The white background creates contrast.
