Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA, commonly called Norwegian, began its history as a low-cost airline connecting regional routes in Western Norway. Thanks to affordable fares and an expanding flight network, the company has grown into a major European carrier, covering numerous destinations in Europe, Asia, and America. However, the pandemic forced the airline to reduce its ambitions and refocus on Europe, helping it regain financial stability.
The updated visual identity of Norwegian reflects internal changes and a new stage in its development. The previous logo was simple: the brand name enclosed in a red rectangle with a small image of an airplane. While the old style remained relevant for a long time, it gradually lost its expressiveness.
The new design, developed by the Norwegian agency TRY Design, offers a neat and refreshing brand image. The font has become lighter and friendlier and acquired a pleasant modern look. The main innovation is a miniature airplane closely connected to the brand’s name. Previously blurred, the airplane image now has a neat, clear shape. Despite its small size, it effectively conveys the association with air travel, clearly readable even when significantly reduced.
A custom font developed by Kanon Foundry reflects the Nordic style and creates a feeling of lightness. Small curves in the letters resemble flight paths on navigational charts, subtly highlighting the company’s business specifics. The letter “w” is particularly interesting, as its curves appear most vividly and recognizably.
The airline’s signature red nose remains unchanged, continuing the company’s tradition. However, the well-known tail decorations featuring portraits of famous personalities have been replaced by a universal new symbol. This simplifies the visual image and makes it cohesive.
As a result, Norwegian has gained a modern and friendly appearance, successfully combining previous recognizable elements with new details. The brand is perceived as fresh and confident, highlighting its new, positive position in European aviation.
