The StockX logo symbolizes a stock-market approach to buying and selling sneakers and other rare items. It is a marketplace where rare products are traded transparently and in a trusted environment.

StockX: Brand overview

StockX began with Josh Luber, an IBM analyst and sneaker collector who saw the resale market lacked reliable pricing data. Starting in 2012, he downloaded eBay transactions before work and analyzed over 25 million sales over three years. The result was Campless, a sneaker price database modeled on Kelley Blue Book.

Campless drew the interest of Dan Gilbert, co-founder of Quicken Loans and owner of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. Gilbert, Greg Schwartz, Chris Kaufman, and Luber developed a marketplace based on stock-exchange mechanics. Gilbert bought Campless in June 2015, and Luber moved from Philadelphia to Detroit.

StockX opened on February 8, 2016. Sellers posted asks, buyers submitted bids, and matching prices completed a sale. Public trading histories and product ticker symbols supported the exchange format. Goods passed through a Detroit authentication center before reaching buyers, allowing the company to reject counterfeits.

A $6 million funding round followed in February 2017 with investors including Eminem, Mark Wahlberg, and SV Angel. StockX added streetwear, watches, and bags in 2017, followed by electronics in 2020. GV and Battery Ventures invested $44 million in 2018, when it opened a London office. A $110 million round valued the company at $1 billion in 2019, and Scott Cutler replaced Luber as CEO. Luber left in September 2020, when the company employed more than 1,400 people. Its valuation reached $3.8 billion in 2021, while Greg Schwartz became CEO in late 2024.

2015 – 2021

StockX Logo 2015

The StockX logo from 2015 to 2021 symbolized the company’s concept of financial growth. Brand founders Josh Luber, Greg Schwartz, Dan Gilbert, and Chris Kaufman chose a style associated with stock trading dynamics.

The name “StockX” is written in lowercase letters in a simple geometric font, similar to Helvetica Neue, highlighting the minimalist character of the company’s digital platform. The letter “X” is colored green (#008348), symbolizing profit and asset growth.

The shape of the “X” resembled an upward-pointing arrow, referencing increases in asset value. The green “X” contrasted clearly with the black “stock,” enhancing readability.

The StockX logo visually represented the stock market and investment concepts, expressing the platform’s core values of value growth and transparency.

2021 – today

StockX Logo

The StockX logo was updated in 2021, with Hype Type Studio participating. Its introduction accompanied a new stage in the platform’s life, as it moved from a niche project to a large-scale player in the international e-commerce market. The company needed a strong visual image that reflected its status and global ambitions.

The base color of the logo became the Pantone 3425 C green tone (HEX #006340). It resonates with the platform’s themes of finance and product exchange, emphasizing prosperity and mutual trust, which are important to service users.

Changes also affected the typeface. The new font resembles Helvetica Rounded, but with individual accents. The letters “t” and “k” feature angled cuts that emphasize the brand’s technological and innovative image.

The designers paid special attention to the “X” symbol, the logo’s main mark. Unlike previous versions, it no longer has the upward-pointing arrow. The new form consists of two intersecting lines that create a stylized percent symbol. It emphasizes the equal positions of seller and buyer and hints at the platform’s financial profile.

The company received a modern image that reflects the transition from a startup to an international platform. The logo conveys growth, balance, and technological leadership, strengthening the brand at a new stage of its development.
