In the New Zealand district of Remuera, the early learning center Village Green has opened. It offers children a place to learn through play, exploration, and interaction with the world around them. The new brand, created by the studio Seachange, conveys the idea of natural growth and the connection between people and nature.
Village Green was conceived as an alternative to traditional childcare institutions. Instead of gadgets and standard lessons, children are offered walks, creative activities, and opportunities to observe nature. The center aims to nurture curiosity and independence by creating an environment where a child feels part of the world around them.
The visual identity is built on soft green tones and simple shapes that create a sense of calm and purity. The logo uses the Rebond Grotesque typeface, with an unusual oval in the letter “i” that resembles the eyes of small characters known as the “inhabitants” of Village Green. These figures have become the symbol of the center. They resemble animals, plants, or birds and inspire children’s imagination.
The characters bring the brand to life and make it friendly while maintaining visual restraint. Their style differs from typical children’s illustrations, making the visual language equally engaging for both children and adults.
An additional set of icons was created to represent three foundations of development: mind, movement, and care for nature. Simple lines convey deep meaning while remaining easy to perceive.
From the first weeks after opening, the center has been operating at full capacity. Parents note the atmosphere of care and naturalness, and the local community actively supports the project. Village Green has managed to combine an educational concept with a genuine respect for nature, becoming an example of how a children’s brand can be truly alive and humane.
