2026 Commonwealth Games Unveils New Logo and Brand Identity

2026 Commonwealth Games Logo

The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have introduced a refreshed logo that captures the city’s unique character, architectural heritage, and forward-thinking vision. Created by Glasgow-based agency LOOP, the design incorporates elements deeply tied to the city’s history, culture, and iconic River Clyde, which has played a pivotal role in shaping Glasgow into a vibrant, modern center of activity.

The logo builds on Commonwealth Sport’s familiar “Celebration Device” while adding three distinct features highlighting Glasgow’s legacy and contemporary identity. At the top of the design is a cross inspired by the angular form of the Finnieston Crane, a landmark near venues like the SEC Hydro and SEC Armadillo. Originally built in 1932, the crane symbolizes Glasgow’s industrial roots and transformation into a thriving urban center.

Below the cross is a depiction of the Clyde Arc, commonly known as the “Squinty Bridge” because of its curved structure. Beyond its practical role as a connector, the bridge represents integrating the city’s core with the rejuvenated Pacific Quay area. It is home to cultural and technological hubs like BBC Scotland and the Glasgow Science Centre. The bridge’s arc is a metaphor for Glasgow’s progress and modern vision.

The lower part of the logo features rippling lines symbolizing the River Clyde. Once a cornerstone of Glasgow’s growth as a trading powerhouse, the river has been revitalized as a center of urban renewal. Today, the Clyde embodies the city’s ongoing economic, social, and cultural regeneration efforts, making it a fitting emblem for the Commonwealth Games, which will heavily feature riverside venues.

The logo is anchored by bold, modern typography with clean, geometric sans-serif lettering that ensures clarity across digital and physical formats. The text “Glasgow 2026” is paired with a gradient of vibrant colors ranging from purple to turquoise, reflecting Scotland’s natural beauty in a contemporary and energetic way. These colors convey a sense of diversity and excitement, aligning with the inclusive spirit of the Commonwealth Games.

This updated design moves away from the static visuals of past events, embracing motion and interconnectedness. Its geometric elements and vivid colors honor Glasgow’s rich heritage while showcasing its dynamic future. Compared to the minimalist design of the 2022 Birmingham Games, Glasgow’s logo offers a more immersive and engaging visual that celebrates the host city’s distinct identity and global appeal.
