In 1911, local doctors and civic leaders founded Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, the precursor to today’s Bozeman Health, by opening a modest 27-bed facility on North Tracy Avenue. Rapid community growth led to an expansion in the 1920s, increasing capacity to 50 beds and introducing new surgical services.
Throughout the Great Depression in the 1930s, the hospital remained vital for residents, treating patients regardless of their ability to pay and initiating a nursing education program. Significant modernization occurred in the 1950s, expanding the facility to 100 beds and attracting medical specialists.
Between the 1960s and 1970s, Bozeman Health embraced new technologies, establishing an intensive care unit and introducing advanced surgical procedures. The 1980s witnessed further development, including the expansion of emergency services and the establishment of a cardiology center. By the 1990s, the hospital had evolved into a regional medical center, opening clinics throughout the area.
Significant infrastructure upgrades, including the construction of a state-of-the-art surgical facility and a dedicated cancer center, marked the 2000s. A 2013 rebranding formally marked the organization’s transition to Bozeman Health, reflecting its expanded scope of medical services. Between 2015 and 2020, the organization introduced advanced treatment methods, expanded its departments, and launched additional primary care clinics.

1911 – 2015
The foundation of the old Bozeman Health identity was the effort to connect the medical institution with the history of the Gallatin Valley region and its cultural roots. The hospital’s religious origins were reflected in its design, which remained largely unchanged for over a century.
The composition of the mark was built on a rectangle divided into three zones of different widths. On the right was the largest block, a blue shade, setting an atmosphere of trust and professionalism. On the left were two vertical sections of bronze and light bronze color. They created an impression of seriousness, while the warm tones softened the cold, strict tone of the medical theme.
The main expressive device was two white lines crossing the rectangular zones. The upper line ran through the entire composition, unifying it into a single system, while the short lower line connected only some of the blocks, adding dynamics. The lines formed an abstract symbol in which one could discern the letter B and the outline of mountains, hinting at the county’s natural landscape.
The typeface was sans serif, with strict proportions and uniform strokes, reminiscent of modifications of Gotham or Frutiger. All letters were uppercase.
The color scheme and geometry created a unified image of reliability and continuity. The combination of lines, bronze, and blue created a balance of warmth and rigor, reflecting the organization’s mission to blend tradition with modern healthcare methods.
The old logo did not fully reflect the medical specifics, but it preserved the connection with the territory where the hospital’s activity developed.
2015 – today
The new Bozeman Health logo differs from the previous version. Instead of strict geometry with bronze and blue-light blue blocks, an image appeared based on the letter B, divided into two contrasting parts.
The upper half of the letter has a soft silhouette with rounded edges and a turquoise color, forming associations with health, renewal, and care. The lower part is designed in dark blue, with the upper area resembling mountain relief, particularly the peaks of the Bridger Mountains, familiar to all residents of the region.
The name is divided into two lines. The upper line contains the word “Bozeman”; the lower line, the word “Health.” A modern sans-serif font with soft shapes, close to Montserrat, is used. The first letter of each word is capitalized, with the others lowercase, which creates a friendlier, less formal look. The upper line is colored turquoise, and the lower one is dark blue; this color separation enhances the visual structure.
The palette consists of two shades. Turquoise conveys associations with purity and care, while saturated blue conveys professionalism and competence. Together, they create a harmony of openness and authority, which expands the emotional range compared to the previous strict combination of bronze and blue blocks.
Bozeman Health transformed from a local hospital into a network of medical centers and research units. The task was to unite different structures under a single identity and simplify communication with patients and partners. The new mark embodies the company’s mission, which combines the preservation of historical ties to the region with a modern, patient-oriented approach to healthcare.
