CommonLit, an educational platform launched in 2013 and created by teachers for teachers, has introduced an updated style developed by the studio Brains. The project has long been known for its mission to expand access to high-quality learning materials for schools and students, and the refreshed design marks a step toward a more lively and human dialogue with its audience.
The previous logo looked generic. A book as a symbol and a neutral rendering of the name could easily have belonged to any educational initiative. The new mark gained individuality and visual strength. The icon is built from two stylized book spreads that form the letters C and L, a monogram of the platform’s name. The C shape is freer and more abstract, while the L appears more precise and supports the overall construction.
The CommonLit name is set in a typeface with rounded serifs. The lettering balances the strict geometry of the monogram, adding warmth and an intelligent tone to the image. As a result, the visual style became richer and more engaging while retaining an academic feel.
The color system in the updated identity is oriented toward the brand’s emotional openness. The shades are calm and welcoming, creating a comfortable environment for educators and school administrators. The Crimson Pro typeface logically continues the logo’s theme and reinforces the connection to the platform’s literary foundation.
A character named Cleo adds a sense of life to the brand and creates an additional point of contact with users. The update also affected the platform’s website. The structure became clearer, the interface more convenient, and access to educational materials feels easier.
The new CommonLit image demonstrates a respectful attitude toward teachers, highlights the platform’s practical value for schools, and clearly conveys its role in educational technology. The brand appears clearer and closer, helping students unlock their learning potential.
