The Australian brand Great Northern Brewing Co. has unveiled an updated logo and visual style, reworking its key design elements. The marlin became the main hero, familiar to beer fans and known within the community as “Whitey.” It has now been placed at the center of the brand and established as the primary symbol.
The SICKDOGWOLFMAN team reworked the marlin illustration by hand, stripping away secondary details and strengthening the silhouette. The fish gained fluidity and a sense of mass. The contours of the belly and tail became more flexible, and the image appears more lifelike. The enlarged dorsal fin visually balances the figure, adding cohesion and internal tension. The marlin holds its shape well on labels, cartons, and large-scale formats.
Major changes also affected the wordmark. The previously used typeface resembled Gotham but featured decorative elements that were unsuccessful. It was replaced by Great Northern Condensed, inspired by signage from Australian pubs in rural Queensland. The letters are dense and heavy, carrying the character of local visual culture. Asymmetric flares in certain characters were retained, but now read as a deliberate device rather than an accidental trait.
The packaging underwent full unification. The entire range, including Original, Super Crisp, Zero, and ginger ale, was brought into a single system with a clear hierarchy. The marlin occupies the central position on every label and carton. The composition is adapted for cans, bottles, and shipping packaging. A unified color scheme and large-scale typography make navigation across the lineup easier and strengthen overall visual cohesion.
The update may seem restrained at first glance, but the system is now more streamlined and clearer. The marlin image gained weight and authority, the typography moved closer to the local context, and the packaging received a logical structure.
