Informa: Brand overview

Informa was founded in 2004 as a brand of PT Home Center Indonesia. It is part of the Kawan Lama Group. The group’s history began in 1955 when Wong Jin opened a small hardware store in Jakarta. By the 1980s, the family business had grown into a major distributor of equipment and tools. During this period, the company began diversifying into retail.

Creating Informa was a step toward developing its home-goods direction. The first stores opened in shopping centers in Jakarta and other major cities. They offered a wide selection of furniture, textiles, and accessories aimed at Indonesia’s growing middle class. The concept combined modern design, affordable prices, and the “everything for the home in one place” format.

In the 2010s, Informa expanded its network nationwide. Dozens of new stores opened on Java, Sumatra, and Bali. In 2012, Kawan Lama Group introduced the Living Plaza format. It brought the group’s brands together under one roof, including Informa.

In 2013, the group launched the Informa Electronics brand. It added home appliances and electronics to the product range. In 2016, the company launched the online platform Ruparupa. It integrated offline and online sales, becoming an important tool for developing an omnichannel retail strategy.

The company invested in store renovations, private label development, and staff training. These measures strengthened its position in a competitive market. In 2024, Kawan Lama Group rebranded. The manufacturing division was renamed Kawan Lama Manufacturing.

Informa manages an extensive store network and an online platform. The company serves millions of customers across Indonesia and remains a leading national brand in the furniture and home goods sector.

2004 – 2010

Index Furnishings Logo 2004

The business’s history is connected to Kawan Lama Group. In 1955, the Wong family opened a small hardware and industrial goods store in Jakarta. The group later expanded its operations. In 2004, PT Home Center Indonesia began developing a retail network selling furniture and products for residential and commercial spaces.

Before the INFORMA name appeared, the stores operated as Index Furnishings. The logo was designed for building facades. Index represented the chain’s name, while FURNISHINGS below identified its furniture and interior product selection.

A dark blue elongated shape formed the logo’s foundation. A slanted yellow panel appeared over it and extended beyond the edges. A red band ran beneath the yellow area along the bottom of the sign. The overlapping forms created 3 color levels and separated the chain name from the descriptive line.

Index used serif letters. The initial “I” had a red outer outline and white interior. A red oval detail appeared above it. The remaining index letters were dark blue and occupied most of the yellow panel. The “I” rose above the other characters and partially crossed the background’s upper edge.

FURNISHINGS appeared inside the lower red band. White uppercase letters used a heavy sans-serif style. The small size preserved Index’s primary role while connecting the logo to the chain’s furniture business. The identity used 4 colors: dark blue, yellow, red, and white.

The transition to INFORMA occurred gradually. A December 2010 announcement about the Asian Furnishing Leadership Awards used the combined name Informa/Index Furnishings. The wording indicated a period when the new INFORMA name and former store brand were used together.

2009 – 2010

Informa Logo 2009

INFORMA’s history began in 2004. The company sells furniture and lifestyle products for residential and commercial spaces. The slogan “Furnishings with Style” captured the chain’s focus on stylish, comfortable interiors. Its selection was developed for several generations of Indonesian families.

From 2009 to 2010, the chain transitioned from Index to the INFORMA brand. The new signature centered on the word “informa” with a multicolored “o.” By February 2011, business publications were using the name Informa Furnishings and reported that the chain operated 29 stores. The new name represented PT Home Center Indonesia’s furniture business.

The logo appeared against a dark blue field. The large white lowercase word “informa” occupied the upper section. A heavy rounded sans-serif typeface extended across the colored field. The name served as the primary level, while FURNISHINGS explained the store’s business.

The “o” consisted of 4 colored sections connected like puzzle pieces. The upper-right section was red, while the lower-left was yellow. The other 2 sections used a muted gray-blue shade. Triangular forms of different sizes appeared near the top. The gray-blue triangle on the left rose diagonally, while the smaller red section faced downward.

A thin white line ran beneath informa. FURNISHINGS appeared below in smaller uppercase letters. The sans-serif style had thin strokes and expanded spacing. White united both lines and the divider. Red, yellow, and gray-blue appeared inside the “o.”

2010 – 2019

Informa Logo 2010

From 2010 to 2019, the INFORMA logo presented the word “informa” against a light background. The dark blue block, white dividing line, and lower FURNISHINGS inscription gave way to a short wordmark. The brand name was already being used independently from Index.

All letters received an upright sans-serif style and dark blue color. The opening “i” and “n” had thin strokes and reduced height. The “f,” “r,” “m,” and “a” received large, heavy forms. Weight differences divided the name into 2 sections while preserving its lowercase spelling and established letter order.

The heavy “f” and “r” followed the thin “i” and “n.” A multicolored “o” occupied the center, while the large “m” and “a” appeared on the right. The colored letter divided the wordmark and maintained continuity with the previous INFORMA FURNISHINGS identity.

Four geometric sections formed the “o.” The lower-left section was yellow, while the lower-right was dark blue. Purple replaced the earlier gray-blue in the upper-left section. The upper-right part remained red.

INFORMA updated the multicolored “o,” a long part of the brand name, in 2019. The lowercase informa spelling and dark blue letters remained. The redesign changed the interior division, colors, and proportions of the “o.”

The opening “i” and “n” retained thin strokes and reduced dimensions. The “f,” “r,” “m,” and “a” kept their heavy sans-serif forms. Weight differences divided the name into several sections. The multicolored “o” appeared between the “f” and “r,” while dark blue united the remaining characters.

The “o” contained 4 rounded sections. White openings crossed along the vertical and horizontal axes, creating equal areas. The outer contour resembled an elongated capsule. The upper-left section was green, while the upper-right used an orange-red shade. The lower-left appeared in soft mustard, and the lower-right became blue-gray.

INFORMA expanded the brand through descriptors for different businesses. INFORMA Custom Furniture appeared in 2017. The first standalone INFORMA Electronics store opened in April 2019. INFORMA Sleep joined the brand family. The shared name connected the divisions, while additional words identified their specializations.

The company introduced “Furnishings with Style” in January 2019 as part of the Your Stylish Home & Commercial Furnishings program. Brand representative Bertha Hapsari linked the statement to changing household habits and the growing role of aesthetics and furniture trends in home and business purchases. The brand continues to operate through PT Home Center Indonesia within Kawan Lama Group.
