Netgear, a California-based company founded in 1996, designs and distributes networking hardware for consumer and commercial use. From its San Jose headquarters, the company offers a product assortment that includes wired and wireless routers, modems, mesh systems, range extenders, and switches, primarily for home users.

However, Netgear also provides a variety of commercial networking equipment. This lineup includes VPN firewalls, Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches, storage servers, and WiFi access points, primarily for small- to medium-sized businesses. A notable feature of Netgear’s offerings is the ease of setting up and managing its products, particularly its routers, via the Genie mobile app.

Netgear is known for pioneering the mesh router market, particularly its Orbi WiFi system, designed to offer comprehensive home coverage. Other key product ranges include the Nighthawk series, geared towards gaming and high performance, and the Armor range, focused on cybersecurity.

Since 2003, the company has distributed more than 42 million consumer networking devices. As a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ, Netgear operates globally and employs over 1,000 people. While the company manages design and development, the manufacturing process is outsourced to partners such as USI, Wistron, Pegatron, and Delta Electronics.

Netgear competes with major players such as TP-Link, D-Link, and Linksys in the home and small office networking market.
