Portland Fire Unveils New Logo and Brand Identity

Portland Fire Logo

Portland Fire is returning to the WNBA with an updated name and a new logo created by the design team at Adopt. The revived brand references the original club that played several years ago but now appears in a fresh form, combining city symbolism with the vibrant emotions characteristic of women’s basketball.

The club’s new logo reflects Portland’s legendary status as the “City of Roses,” using the symbol of a fiery flower as its foundation. A rose engulfed in flames conveys the passionate and determined nature of the team, while also closely relating to Portland’s history, renowned for its numerous gardens. The flames surrounding the flower visually express the excitement, passion, and energy with which the team takes to the court. This fire embodies the ambitious nature of the Portland Fire project, bringing professional women’s basketball back to a city that has always proudly supported women’s sports.

Portland Fire Emblem

Incorporating references to local landmarks was an essential part of the design. The team’s typographic symbol directly connects to Portland’s architecture, with letterforms inspired by the city’s bridges, which link the eastern and western sides, giving Portland its distinctive character. The lines and curves of the letters echo both the engineering elegance of these bridges and the natural beauty of the local landscape, especially Mount Hood’s silhouette, which became part of the team’s visual emblem.

Special attention was given to the primary brand symbol, the letter “P.” It signifies the team’s belonging to its hometown, shaped in a way that suggests power and grace while emphasizing the team’s connection to the region’s natural symbols. The top portion of the “P” features Mount Hood’s silhouette, highlighting respect for Oregon’s iconic peak.

The team’s official colors, red, brown, blue, and pink, bring together the energy of flames, the earthiness of the local landscape, Oregon’s skies, and the gentle symbolism of the city’s roses.

The team’s return has been met with overwhelming fan support. Even before officially opening season ticket sales, Portland Fire received a record-breaking 10,000 requests from supporters, the highest number in WNBA history. This demonstrates how long the city has anticipated the return of professional women’s basketball and how passionately fans are ready to support their athletes.
