The Proofmode platform, which helps journalists and activists verify the authenticity of digital media files, has completed a full visual refresh. The new design communicates the project’s mission more precisely and explains complex verification technologies clearly and openly, without any sense of opacity or technical detachment.
The previous Proofmode logo felt weak compared to the product itself. A lowercase p inside a circle resembled a generic email symbol or system icon, while the arbitrarily chosen Roboto typeface reinforced a sense of anonymity.
The new identity introduces a mark built around a clear idea. The symbol represents the process of extracting and analyzing data within a digital file. The lines within the shape reference sets of metadata that Proofmode adds to every uploaded asset to confirm the asset’s origin and authenticity. The image is abstract yet focused and easy to remember, without decorative excess for its own sake.
The wordmark is set in a serif typeface. This choice reflects a deliberate move away from familiar tech visual language. The typeface is associated with editorial environments and journalistic practice, reinforcing themes of credibility and responsibility for information.
The visual system develops through pixel-based motifs. One approach uses large pixel fields that form backgrounds and evoke associations with digital data streams. Another relies on geometric pixel structures that emerge from a corner and intrude into the imagery, supporting visual-level analysis and verification.
The typographic system uses Montagu Slab, Public Sans, and Geist Mono. The typefaces are restrained, without decorative elements, and well-suited for text and data. They support transparency and reliability, which are essential when handling sensitive materials and sources.
The updated Proofmode identity feels thoughtful and substantive. Instead of a neutral, impersonal mark, the platform now has a visual system that conveys the project’s essence. The brand has become clearer for activists, journalists, and corporate teams for whom fact-checking and information provenance are critical. Proofmode is now a tool designed to help people distinguish reliable data from distortion and fabrication.
