Behind the outer paint covering the tanks’ metal hulls, a bright inner fire fills their hearts. The Venom logo demonstrates that everyone possessed by an ancient monster becomes a living embodiment of evil’s sizzling power.
Venom began in Marvel Comics before reaching the big screen. In 1982, Illinois reader Randy Schueller sent Marvel an idea for a black-and-white Spider-Man suit made from self-repairing biological material. Marvel bought it for $220. Mike Zeck and Jim Shooter developed the concept, and in May 1984, Secret Wars #8 showed Spider-Man finding the black suit on Battleworld.
The costume later proved to be a living alien symbiote. Peter Parker rejected it in November 1984 after learning its parasitic nature. David Michelinie then shaped the next stage. In Web of Spider-Man in 1986 and 1987, he teased a hidden enemy who could bypass Spider-Man’s danger sense. In The Amazing Spider-Man #300, in May 1988, Venom debuted.
The symbiote bonded with Eddie Brock, a ruined investigative journalist who blamed Spider-Man for his downfall. Todd McFarlane gave Venom his defining look: a huge body, black living skin, sharp teeth, and an oversized mouth. In 1993, Michelinie wrote Venom: Lethal Protector, moving the character to San Francisco and recasting him closer to an antihero. That same year, he created Carnage for Maximum Carnage.
Sony Pictures brought Venom to film in Spider-Man 3 in 2007, with Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. A solo version followed years later with Tom Hardy. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom was released by Columbia Pictures on October 5, 2018, earning $856 million worldwide on a budget of nearly $100 million. Venom: Let There Be Carnage followed in 2021, and Venom: The Last Dance closed the trilogy on October 25, 2024.
Meaning and History
Venom’s plot revolves around an unfortunate journalist who suddenly gains superpowers. This happens when a symbiote, delivered by a spaceship from another planet, enters his body. The cargo consists of several copies. One escaped, and the rest ended up in a scientific laboratory, where they were tried to be hooked up with the experiment. But, as it turned out, the creatures chose the carriers because they were thinking, powerful, and practically invulnerable.
The mission of the symbiotes was to prepare for reconnaissance operations by representatives of their species to invade Earth. However, Venom, possessing Eddie Brock, was imbued with the atmosphere of the planet and confronted his evil brother. He performed several superhero deeds in the human world, getting along well in the same body as the owner. The film’s ending was open; it hinted at the continuation of the storyline. As it turned out, this is the case: the next fantasy film is slated for release in the fall of 2021.
The film’s title was used as an emblem. It is glossy, metalized, and shiny, with a slight patina. This was necessary to emphasize the essence of the characters’ steel character: their steadfastness in the face of difficulties, perseverance, and invincibility. Each letter has a gradient, transitioning from light highlights to gray shadows. They make the inscription three-dimensional as if each sign were three-dimensional.
On the side plane of the symbols on the right side, a crimson-red glow is visible, as if from a fire blazing somewhere nearby. In the film, he is present at the plot’s climax, where the negative symbiote dies, and Venom survives. The style of the text sign is individual: each letter has an original shape. The right leg, “V,” is elongated longer than the left. Expressive serifs frame it, while the “E,” “N,” and “M” are barely noticeable, appearing as miniature extensions at the ends.
Moreover, one of their legs, “N,” went beyond the standard limits and was almost equal in height to the first letter. It is located exactly in the middle of the logo. In the case of “M,” the line, on the contrary, goes beyond the lower border and coincides in length with the elongated angle “V.”
Font and Colors
There is also a graphic icon depicting an alien creature’s face. Venom is depicted as a terrible and mysterious monster, as if emerging from the darkness. On a black background, the protagonist’s slanting eyes are visible. They are ax-shaped and surround a high forehead. Below is a row of sixteen sharp canines, each of different sizes. Next is an elongated red snake-like tongue. In shape, it resembles a hot pepper (chili). Behind it is hidden another row of fangs, but smaller, placed on the lower jaw of the main character.
A stylized font, created personally, has been chosen for the splash screen inscription and the logo. It has no analogs, but its design shares something in common with two typefaces: Purchase Algerian and Leichenhaus.
The corporate palette is metallic, with a chrome effect. Black, white, and gray colors of a wide spectrum convey the steel luster. Red is also present, creating fiery reflections on the letters and colors of the alien’s tongue.
