Commerical Observer Logo

The redesign of Commercial Observer’s visual identity was the work of Pentagram under the direction of partner Luke Hayward. The team’s goal was to create an emblem that reflected the publication’s business orientation, which covers real estate and financial markets. The new mark was designed to emphasize the brand’s prestige and reliability while preserving the aesthetics of traditional media.

The foundation of the logo was the Escrow typeface developed by Hoefler & Co. Its serifs, classic proportions, and balanced stroke thickness evoke associations with the typography of the business press. The typeface is distinguished by its high readability, giving the Commercial Observer an authoritative appearance. The typeface’s expressiveness makes the text a distinct symbol that retains its strength across various formats, including newspaper pages and digital environments.

The logo is executed in black, which enhances the sense of seriousness and underscores the strict editorial policy.

In addition to the mark, Pentagram developed a modular layout system and an expanded palette for material design. However, the black logo became the key element of the identity. It is perceived as a symbol of the stability and reliability of the publication working with investment and development topics.

The Commercial Observer logo reflects the publication’s professional mission and conveys the image of a media outlet that remains authoritative in a competitive information environment.
