Pharmacy chains provide access to medications, consultations, and other services for everyday healthcare. Customers purchase medications and receive recommendations through physical locations and digital channels. The RD Saúde logo is associated with a pharmacy chain that provides pharmaceutical services in Brazil.

RD Saude(Raia Drogasil): Brand overview

RD Saúde traces its history back to 1905, when pharmacist João Baptista Raia opened the Droga Raia pharmacy in Araraquara, São Paulo. In 1935, the Drogasil chain was established. It operated independently and expanded retail pharmacy services across Brazil. Throughout the 20th century, both companies strengthened their market presence, modernized equipment, and introduced new management technologies.

In the late 1990s, Droga Raia and Drogasil were listed on the BM&FBovespa exchange. They joined the Novo Mercado segment, which included companies with high corporate governance standards.

In 2011, the two chains merged. As a result, Raia Drogasil S.A. was formed, becoming Brazil’s largest pharmacy company. In 2012, the company established a unified headquarters in São Paulo’s Butantã district. That same year, the Univers platform launched, focusing on corporate healthcare.

After the merger, the company expanded. From 2011 to 2019, it opened new pharmacies and strengthened its presence across states. In 2019, Raia Drogasil acquired the online platform, Onofre.

In 2020, the company demonstrated its ability to adapt to market challenges. Its market share increased to 14.7 percent. During the same period, it developed technological initiatives, including investments in the Manipulaê platform for pharmacies that produce custom-made medicines.

In 2021, Raia Drogasil invested in Amplimed, Labi, and Conecta. These startups developed solutions for the healthcare sector.

In 2023, the company rebranded as RD Saúde. The name reflected the transition to an integrated healthcare model that included retail, digital, and service areas.

By 2024, RD Saúde had strengthened its market position. The company expanded its assortment to 80,000 products and enhanced its digital customer service channels.

What is RD Saúde?

It is one of Brazil’s largest pharmaceutical groups, managing pharmacy chains under the Droga Raia and Drogasil brands. The organization operates nationwide, with over 2,500 retail locations, and serves millions of customers daily. Its main business areas include selling medicines, cosmetics, personal care, and health products, as well as providing consultations and minor medical services.

2011 – 2017

The red-and-green cross in the RaiaDrogasil logo sits above the right end of the name, like a mathematical exponent. Carlos Dranger associated its placement with the merged company’s entrepreneurship and leadership. The emblem appeared in 2012, when the group needed a shared identity for employees, partners, and investors following the merger. Cauduro Associados led the work under Dranger’s direction. The team created and rolled out the brand in about 45 days. The pharmacies continued operating under their separate names, Droga Raia and Drogasil.

The corporate name brought together 2 Brazilian pharmacy chains that merged in 2011. Raia was named after pharmacist João Baptista Raia, who opened Pharmacia Raia in Araraquara, São Paulo, in 1905. Drogasil was established in 1935 through the merger of Drogaria Bráulio and Drogaria Brasil. RaiaDrogasil combined the chains’ names, while RD took their initials. The group’s current name, RD Saúde, maintains that connection.

RaiaDrogasil appears on a single line, with no space. The capital “R” and “D” mark the beginnings of the name’s 2 parts, while the remaining letters are lowercase. The dark gray sans-serif lettering combines even, consistent strokes with soft contours. Above the text on the right, 4 curved ribbons with pointed ends form a tilted pharmacy cross. The upper and left sections use crimson-red shades, while the right and lower sections are dark green. Highlights, shading, and white gaps between the ribbons add depth. Red and green carry forward the color traditions of the 2 chains, while the cross connects the corporate emblem to the pharmacy business.

2017 – 2024

By 2017, RaiaDrogasil’s operations had expanded beyond its 2 pharmacy chains. The group was developing healthcare services and product brands, creating a need for a short, shared corporate name. After several years of collaboration, the team settled on RD. The pharmacies kept Raia and Drogasil signage. Thymus Branding participated in the identity update. The work centered on “Gente que cuida de gente,” meaning “People caring for people.”

A large green monogram replaced the red-and-green pharmacy cross. The thick, rounded “R” and “D” are joined by a long, sloping curve extending from the “R” to the lower portion of the “D.” ElásticaDesign, which worked on RD’s identity, linked the joined initials to the unity of hearts and minds. Beneath the monogram, the legal name RaiaDrogasil S.A. appears in light gray sans-serif lettering. Its rounded forms echo the soft lines above.

To the right of the green initials, the large gray text reads “Gente, Saúde e Bem-estar,” meaning “People, Health, and Well-Being.” The words occupy 3 lines. The text matches the monogram’s height and takes up equal space beside it. Its rounded lettering repeats the RaiaDrogasil S.A. line style at a larger size.

2024 – today

The Portuguese word “saúde,” meaning “health,” became part of the Brazilian group’s name in March 2024. The transition from RD to RD Saúde reflected its expansion beyond pharmacy retail. The group was developing comprehensive healthcare, preventive care, and primary care services. The update took nearly a year to prepare. Box 1824 helped define the brand’s purpose, while Tátil Design developed the name and identity. The new name came with the tagline “Juntos por uma sociedade mais saudável,” meaning “Together for a healthier society.”

The emblem was named the “pulse.” Its 4 green sections form a diamond, leaving a white opening at the center shaped like a four-pointed star with concave sides. The design drew on the pharmacy cross and the heartbeat motif from Drogasil’s previous logo. Tátil Creative Director Beto Biscesto linked the 4 sections to physical, mental, and social health, as well as environmental health. The team created a pulsating emblem version for digital use.

To the right of the light green symbol, RDsaúde appears in dark green. A single-line name replaced the joined monogram. The large capital “RD” uses bold sans-serif lettering, while “saúde” continues the line in thin lowercase letters. The acute accent over the “ú” preserves the Portuguese spelling. The “pulse” also appeared in Raia and Drogasil’s updated logos. The pharmacy chains retained their separate names. Their emblems received different colors, while the shared shape connected them to the corporate brand.
