Reno Aces: Brand overview

The history of the Reno Aces baseball club dates back to the oldest Pacific Coast League franchise, the San Francisco Seals, established in 1903 and famous for its legendary player, Joe DiMaggio.

After the Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, the Seals relocated to Phoenix, becoming the Phoenix Firebirds. In the late 1990s, following MLB expansion with the Arizona Diamondbacks, minor league teams underwent reorganization, causing the Firebirds to relocate to Tucson, where they became the Tucson Sidewinders and an affiliate of the Diamondbacks. In 2006, the Sidewinders won the Triple-A championship.

In 2008, the club relocated to Reno, adopting the name Reno Aces, a reference to the team’s top pitcher and Nevada’s gambling heritage. A new stadium, Greater Nevada Field, seating over 9,000 fans, was built and became a local sports center.

In 2012, the team won the Pacific Coast League championship and the national Triple-A title.

Today, the Reno Aces continue competing in Triple-A baseball as an Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate, actively engaging with the local community.

Reno Aces Logo

In 2009, when the Reno Aces baseball team was established, the designers at Brandiose were tasked with creating an image that reflected Reno’s atmosphere, known for its casinos and gambling. The new club logo was intended to combine the spirit of baseball with the region’s identity.

The center of the symbol features the word “Aces” positioned diagonally. The inscription is set in a decorative calligraphic typeface and rendered in dark blue with a bright red outline. The first letter “A” stands out in size and is complemented by a red diamond resembling a playing-card suit. With this symbol, the designers reflected the city’s gambling atmosphere and brought the mark closer to the local entertainment culture.

The final letter “s” in the word ends with a long, smooth tail that extends downward and curves beneath the entire main inscription, emphasizing it. It is rendered in dark blue with a red-and-white outline.

Above the main word is the inscription “Reno,” set in a simple, straight sans serif typeface. The color is dark blue. The combination of the two type styles emphasizes both the city’s geographic name and the team’s sporting identity.

The overall background is a stylized white baseball with red stitching. Around the ball are four colored rings: the inner and outer are gray, with rich red and blue between them.

At the bottom, beneath the main composition, the inscription “BASEBALL CLUB” is arranged in an arc. The text is set in a large serif typeface in a Gothic style, following the ball’s contour. The text is dark blue, which ties it to the logo’s main elements.

The Brandiose studio combined baseball, gambling, and Reno’s local character to create a team symbol that reflects the region’s spirit and culture.
