Mortgage applications are increasingly processed through online services, where application submission, data verification, and document signing are combined into a single digital process. Buying a home through this format takes less time and is done entirely online, without lengthy visits to branch offices. The Rocket Companies logo is associated with a company that develops digital tools for mortgage lending and manages the transaction from application to loan approval.

Rocket Companies: Brand overview

Rocket Companies began operations in 1985 in Detroit. The company’s original name was Rock Financial. Dan and Gary Gilbert founded it as a mortgage brokerage. In the 1990s, the company opened offices in other states. In 1998, it was one of the first to offer online mortgage applications. In 1999, it held an initial public offering on NASDAQ, raising about $ 120 million. In 2000, Rock Financial was acquired by Intuit for $532 million. After the deal, the organization was renamed Quicken Loans.

In 2002, Dan Gilbert bought the company back and focused on digital technologies. Despite the 2008 crisis, Quicken Loans maintained stable operations, supported by a conservative lending policy. By 2013, the company had become the largest online mortgage lender in the United States. In 2015, it surpassed Wells Fargo in retail loan volume.

In 2016, Quicken Loans introduced the Rocket Mortgage mobile app. In 2017, it launched a major advertising campaign. In 2020, amid record-low interest rates, loan volume reached $ 320 billion. That same year, the company went public under the new name Rocket Companies. About 7 percent of the shares were sold for $1.8 billion.

By 2021, rising interest rates led to lower demand. The loan volume fell to $ 313 billion. In 2022, it declined to 88 billion. The company reduced staff and optimized expenses. In 2023, losses continued. In 2024, the focus shifted to business diversification.

Rocket Companies remains one of the largest mortgage lenders in the United States. The company includes digital services Rocket Mortgage, Rocket Homes, Rocket Auto, Rocket Money, and Amrock.

2020 – 2025

Rocket Companies Logo 2020

Rocket Companies communicates the brand’s primary idea through its name and a red letter within the wordmark. Its history began in Detroit in 1985 under the name Rock Financial. Dan Gilbert launched the business as a mortgage broker, and the company became a mortgage lender in 1988.

Intuit acquired Rock Financial in 1999, and the brand became Quicken Loans following the transaction. In 2002, Dan Gilbert and a group of investors purchased Quicken Loans from Intuit and retained the name. Quicken Loans launched Rocket Mortgage, an online mortgage service, in 2015. The word “Rocket” became associated with a fast digital process. In 2020, the parent organization went public as Rocket Companies.

The Rocket Companies logo was arranged on one line. ROCKET appeared in large uppercase letters. Companies stood beside it in a lighter weight with an uppercase first letter. Both words used a black sans-serif typeface, with the main emphasis placed on ROCKET.

A red circle with an opening at the bottom replaced the standard letter “O.” It resembled an open ring, tunnel, nozzle, or rocket exhaust. The remaining letters stayed black, while the red form functioned as an emblem within the wordmark.

Through the red “O,” the logo connected the financial brand with speed, online access, and a simplified mortgage application process. Rocket Companies used a single line of text. The rocket image was incorporated into the letter, while the brand name remained the primary part of the identity.

2025 – today

Rocket Companies Logo

On January 14, 2025, Rocket Companies introduced a new logo as part of a major identity update. The project formed part of an effort to unite the company’s brands under the Rocket name. A broad rollout was planned through an advertising campaign during the Super Bowl. Otherway developed the identity in collaboration with Rocket’s design and creative teams. The process took six months.

The main symbol was named Halo. A red circular mark with an opening at the bottom appears on the left. The negative space inside forms a stylized letter “R,” while the lower opening resembles a rocket nozzle or a semicircular exhaust trail. In Rocket’s materials, the circle represents trust, while the arc is described as a “protective arc.” Through it, the brand connects the identity with the path to homeownership, prosperity, and generational wealth.

The name appears to the right of Halo in two lines. Rocket is placed above Companies. Both words use a sans-serif typeface and are left-aligned. Title case replaced the former uppercase ROCKET lettering to create a friendlier tone and a closer connection with people. The wordmark’s form corresponds with the geometry of Halo, while the typeface resembles Circular or Avenir.

Rocket introduced a custom sans-serif typeface and two proprietary type families. The launch materials connect them with the memory of Nick Gilbert, the son of founder Dan Gilbert. Compared with the previous bright shade, the red became softer and warmer. The company associates the new Rocket Red with compassion and inclusivity, shifting the identity away from a rigid emphasis on speed toward a more personal connection with customers.
