Wichita Thunder: Brand overview

The history of the Wichita Thunder dates back to 1992, when the club became one of the first six teams in the revived Central Hockey League (CHL). Home games were initially held at Britt Brown Arena in Park City, a suburb of Wichita. In their second season, Thunder won two league championships, claiming the Adams Cup and William Levins Memorial Cup.

Since the early 2000s, the club has experienced several coaching changes, with Kevin McClelland being the most successful, leading the team to the CHL playoff finals twice in 2012 and 2013.

In 2010, Thunder moved to the new Intrust Bank Arena in downtown Wichita, where they continue to play today. After the Central Hockey League folded in 2014, the team joined the larger ECHL.

Thunder has been affiliated with several NHL teams, including the Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers, and, since 2022, the San José Sharks. Over the years, many players who later went on to play in the NHL joined the team.
